"Now that was a nice dinner." Loni said as she used the napkin to dab her lips. "Restaurant chefs don't get enough credit I tell you."
"For sure! This was really nice. I hope you still have some room in your tummy because I know a great ice cream shop right not too far from here."
"Aw, Nolan I think this is enough for today really." Loni smiled.
"Not until I say so." He smiled and called on the waiter to bring the bill.
The waiter arrived with the bill and Nolan collected it. Just then, Loni got her credit card out of her purse and handed it to the waiter.
"Please split the bill." She said to the waiter.
"Uhm no Loni, don't worry I got it." He smiled and got his debit card out of his wallet.
"No, It's okay! I can pay for mine."
"Please Loni I insist. I brought you here so I should be the one to take care of it, please." He handed the waiter his card and collected Loni's from him.
"Thanks Nolan! I appreciate." She smiled.
Nolan tipped the waiter then led Loni out of the restaurant and into the Uber that had been waiting for them outside.
They arrived at the ice cream shop and when they got in, Loni tapped Nolan on the shoulder and pointed towards the left. He looked up and saw Zach and his dad.
"Let's make him jealous shall we?" Loni giggled and tugged on Nolan's arm till he followed her. She went and stood right next to Zach while holding on to Nolan's arm.
"Loni hi! What a pleasant surprise." Zach said enthusiastically.
"Oh, hey Zach! Didn't see you there." Loni smiled and moved her gaze back to Nolan. "Honey which flavour are you getting?"
"Nolan? Oh hey.... Wow!" Zach stared at him seemingly at loss for words.
"Oh hey Zach! How's it going?" Nolan asked calmly.
"It's great! I totally wasn't expecting to see you guys here... and... together!" Zach forced a smile.
"Yeah, tonight's actually our date night and Nolan swore that he had to bring me to this place because according to him, the ice cream here is out of this world. Isn't he just the sweetest?" She smiled and leaned in to give him a kiss on the cheek.
"No, I think you are the sweetest of all beings." Nolan leaned in and reciprocated the kiss.
"Well gotta place our order now. See you around Zach." Loni waved her hands to Zach as Nolan held her by the waist and led her to the cake section.

5 minutes later, Loni and Nolan were both seated outside the shop with 2 cakes and 2 large cups of ice cream positioned in front of them on the table.
"Did you see the look on his face? I could literally see the steam coming out from his ears." She giggled.
"Maybe we were a little hard on him." Nolan chuckled.
"He deserves it for being a jerk to you. I knew there was something off about him from the first he spoke to me. He was just so desperate to get me to be his girlfriend. What a total loser!" Loni sighed.
"Really? When was this?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Like 6 months ago." She replied.
"Are you serious?"
"Yeah! Why?" She asked as she bit into her chocolate cake.
"That was the same time I started developing feelings for you! Which he very well knew about. I can't believe he went behind my back and tried to get you."
"Developed feelings for me huh?" She batted her eyelashes.
"Ugh! I must have said too much." He smiled.
"Keep going! I'm listening." She giggled.
"I love the way you laugh Loni. Anyway, the truth is, I've liked you for a very long time now. I only told Zach when I confirmed that my feelings for you were real."
"How did you confirm that?" She asked.
"Well... I realized you were the reason I really enjoyed coming to school everyday. It's not like I hate school or anything like that. It's just that, with you around, my day is complete."
"Aw that's so sweet. Thank you Nolan." She blushed. "You know... I have had my eyes on you for some time as well."
"No way!" He chuckled. "A girl like you? Notice me? No way!"
"Why not?"
"Because you are you, Loni! You're one of the, if not the most beautiful girl I've ever seen. You're smart, intelligent, gorgeous, popular, you name it. There's just no way you'd have eyes for a nerd like me.
"But I do. I'm just a little old fashioned so I have a problem making the first move. I observed you didn't have a lot of friends and you always stayed out of trouble and out of the gossip. I always wondered how you were friends with Zach though because he's like the complete opposite of you." She laughed.
"First of all, thank you. I'm so happy to hear all you've said. As for Zach, I've known him since grade school. We weren't that close then, but when we came to college, we just clicked and I guess things went on from there."
"Aw. I hope he realises what a great friend you are and come running back." She smiled.
"That's okay. Whether he does or not, I don't really care. What I do care about is that, you're with me right now and I'm having the best time of my life."
"Me too. Thank you so much for this wonderful evening. It was amazing."
"I would like to talk to you more often Loni. I don't want to inconvenience you or anything like that but I would just like to be a little closer to you if you would like me to. No pressure though."
"I would love that Nolan." She smiled and rubbed his cheek.
"I guess I better get you home before your cousin gets mad at me."
"Sure." She smiled.
They both walked hand in hand to the Uber that was waiting for them outside. Nolan dropped Loni at home first and made sure she was past the door before leaving.
