"Can't catch a fucking break."

Under his breath, Nicholas had been cursing in his native language. I gave him several light pats on the back of his shoulder to calm him down.

From the corner of my eye I could his jaw tighten.

I became quite entertained seeing this guy make his way to the two of us. Having no fear at all, it was incredible bravery. Especially since Nicholas had more than a threatening look on.

Fortunately for the human, Nicholas's phone started ringing.

I observe my mate as his irritated demeanour dropped,  witnessing front row how easily he managed his emotions.

Nicholas turned around to me. "I'll come find you later." He uttered quietly, stealing one last kiss from me. Then he proceeded to grabb the back of my head to plant a kiss on my forehead before answering the call as he left.

Though we never got to actually 'finish' what we started, my heat had died down. And it would only arise once again next week. A cycle that doesn't end until I'm marked.

My attention turned back to the human who twisted his head to look back at Nicholas leaving before he looked back at me.

I tilt my head as he awkwardly approaches me.

"Boyfriend?" He asked first things first.

I nodded with slight uncertainty.

"Kingston." He held out a hand. I hesitated for moment, staring at his hand. "I'm an exchange student if you haven't already figured it out." He tells me with a nervous chuckle.

My eyes raise back up to him in surprise. "Athena." I say as if I had forgotten my own name for a moment.

He gives me a look of humourous judgement as he drops his hand back to his side. Placing his books down beside me.

His hair was brown and had a tight curl pattern. Large eyes that made sure his pale green eyes were known and a large perfect smile. He seemed so animated and full of life.

"Forgive me, you're just the first person that I feel like I could approach in this school." He smiled so brightly that it was contagious. I couldn't help the downward smile that appeared on my face.

I nod amused at the thought of what he said. "Yeah I get that." I could easily understand how he felt.

If I wasn't forced into the proximity of the lycans then I don't think I would've made any other friends naturally. Not even Chloe who first approached me because of James.

Kingston's mouth twisted into a smile. "So far you're the only student who hasn't tried intimidate me." He seemed to have found some sort comfort. "I feel like being a human here is the same as being a doe in a forest."

My eyebrows snapped together. "You're-.." I wasn't sure if he was exposed to my world or not, I didn't want to be the reason he runs out of the campus in terror.

"Human?" He winced slightly as a tease. "That I am."

I was gawking at him.

"Adopted." Kingston explains with a hint of heaviness in his voice. "My parents, who are just like you, decided to put me into Astor for a few days, just to see if I could fit in with you guys." He waited for my reaction.

A chuckling scoff escaped me. "I almost pity you then."

He laughed with me. "So what is it?" His eyes observed me closely. "I noticed your face when you saw me, it wasn't indifferent like everyone else on campus." He tells me.
