Chapter Six

Last night was rough. I finally found my brother after four years and he wanted nothing to do with me. I had to brush it off and head to school. I really wanted to not think about the situation anymore.

Classes flew by quickly and now it was time for study hall. I made my way to the library and found Eli sitting at a table by himself. He was wearing his usual sweater and kept his head down. I quickly joined him.

"Hey"

"Hey" he replied. "Are you ok?"

I guess I wasn't too good at keeping my emotions to myself. I had tried so hard to stop thinking about Robby today and I guess all of that emotion was flooding back to me.

"Yeah, just a lot of stuff going on at home" I admitted, not wanting to bore him with my family history.

"I'm here for you if you need anything" he said as he held my hand.

I enjoyed the moment we shared together, until Kyler came up to him.

"Hey freak" he said, causing Eli to jump up from his seat. "Where do you think you're going?" Kyler asked as he grabbed a hold of Eli's face.

"Leave him alone!" I said as I pushed him off of Eli.

"You again?"

"Fuck off" I said.

"You can't seriously be standing up for this piece of shit. Just look at this freak, what girl would ever kiss him?" He laughed.

"Fuck off, Kyler." I spat and he and his friends rolled their eyes and walked away. Eli sunk back into his seat on the verge of tears. I sat down beside him and placed my hand on his shoulder. "Are you okay?"

"He's right." he mumbled.

"What are you talking about?"

"I'm a freak. No one's even gonna want to kiss me."

"I would" I explained as I pull Eli in by his collar. I locked lips with him and my stomach started doing all sorts of flips. He kissed back. I could feel him smile into the kiss which made me smile too. We pulled apart to catch our breath. There was no denying I had some form of feelings for Eli, I just hadn't realized it.

"Holy shit" Eli said in amazement.

I wanted to stay in this moment forever, but we couldn't. Kyler and his friends were still watching and suddenly, Sam cleared her throat to grab my attention. She was leaning on one of the book shelves, waiting for me.

"I need to talk to you"

"Yeah, well I don't" I scoffed.

"I think you do" she said as she referred to Robby.

I sighed and complied.

"I'll see you tonight" I said as I gave Eli a kiss on the cheek. It was adorable how easily his cheeks heated up.

When Sam and I walked away from the group, we found our way to a more secluded part of the library.

"What do you want?"

"What the hell were you thinking last night?"

"If you didn't want me to show up, then why did you tell me?"

"I didn't think you'd actually show up"

There was a moment of silence.

"How long has he been staying with you?"

"A few weeks" she admitted. "He started coming when your mom stopped coming home to take care of him"

"He needs to come home" I say.
