Edikan's POV.
It takes six days to get to Eket village from Umunri. A whole day in the canoe to cross the river and five days in land by foot. It took us three days on foot while we were heading to Umunri weeks ago. That was because we walked even during the night and slept only for three to four hours before freshening up and continuing. This was so we could get there in time.
Nneka and Nnenna, Olanna's friends came with. We were all surprised to find out they they were her personal maids turned best friends.
They carried all her belongings they felt were very dear to her. Because it was a fact that bringing all her clothes will be useless since we have different mode of dressing. And of course she will be wearing the Eket people's wears since she is the new queen.
I had already made up my mind that this journey back home would take us a week since we were traveling with three maidens. But to our surprise the maidens and Olanna did not draw us back one bit. They did not look tired when we continued at night with torches.
Olanna hasn't uttered a word since we started this journey. She would only nod when I asked if she was hungry or shake her head when asked if she was tired. I don't know if I liked this her new attitude. But I was certain she would come around. It was obvious that she was still in shock of the whole thing that happened.
I also noticed that she didn't talk to her friends as well but that they didn't look surprised by her attitude. When we will be taking a short rest she is either sleeping or staring into nothing.
We have being walking for four days now and we will soon reach the shore were we would take a canoe that will take us home.
Home. I missed home. I couldn't help but think about Eka Iyene and how she is faring. I know she must be wondering why we haven't returned home. And I hope she wasn't worrying herself on why we had stayed longer than expected.
I couldn't help but think if she will be happy with my choice of wife. I stole a glance at Olanna and I noticed that she is still in her own world.
The thought that she was still mourning the divorce infuriated me. I walked ahead of her and towards Eno- Obong who was trying to make small talk with Nnenna to no avail. I couldn't help but snort. Can't Eno- Obong see that they were all trying to give us a silent treatment here.
I couldn't help but go into my own world as I walked.
**************************************
We are finally here, at the shore to wait for a canoe to take us back home. We arrived here at sun down so it would be reasonable to make a camp near the shore and wait till morning.
Ekong and some of the warriors had caught fish for supper and were making a fire to roast it. Olanna and her friends were sitting five feet away from our camp and eating what the brought. Actually one of them, Nneka I think was feeding her.
"Aren't one of them supposed to be the one to roast the fish" Ekong said eying her friends. Of course it was a woman's duty to cook the meals and that of a man's to provide the food.
But I didn't say anything about it because it appears that they were still sulking.
By the time we finished with our meals Olanna and her friends were fast asleep. Eno- Obong had said that we call them over to join us but I had refused. One would have to work for what they eat.
