Ekong's POV
I wasn't happy the way Edikan married Olanna. She was a married woman after all. But I have seen Edikan smile more than once since we came back, and it was all because of Olanna. He even laughed out loud the day we went to the fish market.
I was happy Olanna was feeling at home thanks to Eka Iyene. Olanna has being very respectful towards Edikan. At first I had taught it was all an act but was surprised it was genuine. And they both were getting along. Or so I thought.
One morning the mango tree was his resting area and the next day he preferred staying in the bushes 'trying to be one with nature'. Well that was what he said.
I knew that whatever was the reason happened the morning after their union. But I never questioned him, besides it wasn't in my place to do so.
To say that I was surprised that Olanna's husband had betrayed her would be an understatement. I felt bad for not trusting my King at first even thou I knew that Edikan is a very ambitious man and always aim to get what he wants.
It must have being a big issue for him to confide in me. Even before he did I knew it was about Olanna. No one ever riles him up like she does. Again it wasn't my business so I won't ask.
However, whatever the issue was I had expected Edikan to have the wisdom to settle it. Or maybe he believes that taking another wife will solve the issue.
I just shook my head as I wondered what he was thinking when he had made that proclamation.
Whatever happens one thing is clear to me even when it is still unclear to Edikan.
He likes Olanna. Dare I say love even. But he doesn't know it or rather he doesn't want to come to terms to the fact that he does.

I smiled as I spot a figure sitting at the entrance of the hut. She raised her head up when she heard my footsteps and smiled. "Greetings Eka." She stood up and hugged me "My son how are you?" "Am Fine Eka. Hope you slept well?" We both sat down on the bench. "I did" she said.
"I already made breakfast" she said heading to the kitchen. She re-emerged with a plate. I watched her as she placed the plate on a stool. I noticed a strand of grey hair on her head as she bent to drop the food.
Mother had refused to re marry after father died. She had suitors after father died but she had rejected them all. For a woman who has seen almost 48 harvests she still looks beautiful and younger than her age.
She has a lighter skin. A round face with beautiful brown eyes. I noticed slight wrinkles at the corner of her eyes. She has a petite figure even thou she claims to be one of the tall girls in her peers.
I knew she gets lonely whenever I leave for work at the palace. I practically live at the palace due to the nature of my work as the Kings personal guard. Hence I make sure to always come home every morning to eat breakfast.
"So my son how is everyone at the palace?" She said smiling widely. I furrowed my eye brows. She has her gossip face. "Fine" I replied curtly.
She lost the smile on her face and then it was back on like it never left her face."So, I heard the town crier announcing that the King is to take a second wife. Is this true?" She asked. "If the town crier announced it then its true Eka" she nodded.
"But why? I mean it's not against our traditions to take as many wives as possible. It's just that it hasn't being up to a moon weeks even since the Queen was crowned. Son what do you think is the reason?" She said in a whisper.
