Edikan's POV
Seriously why am I always surprised when Olanna pulls a stunt on me? Of course she would always find a way to disrespect me. By the gods she is so cunning for someone who looks calm.
I can't believe I fell for that yesterday.Flashback
"My King" I heard someone call. I opened my eyes and saw Ekong peering at me. "The Queen wishes to speak with you. I was told that it was urgent" he said "How urgent?" I asked not feeling like getting up from the tree trunk anytime soon. "She didn't say how urgent but she said that she wish for you to meet her at her hut" he replied.
"Her hut?" It was after I asked this question that I realized that I was already heading to her hut. "Why didn't you start with that at first?" I asked. Ekong just followed me quietly without uttering another word.
She was sitting under a shed close to her hut when we arrived. She stood up "Greetings my King, hope my calling for you is not a disturbance?" She asked very politely. "Not at all" I said as I sat down on the stool beside hers.
"If my King doesn't mind I would like to spend some time with you." she said shyly "I have noticed that since I came to the palace it has always being from one argument to the other, which of course is my fault." She sighed and brought her head down not looking at me.
"I have had a lot of reflection these past few days. My King I have being disrespectful towards you, always talking over you and stepping on your authority." She finally looked up "I hope your Majesty finds it in his heart to forgive all my wrong doings"
Silence
Silence
SilenceI felt a nydge on my back and looked behind to see Ekong nodding at me. I finally understood what he was trying to tell me
"I... I.... of course... I agree" I stuttered. I tried looking for any sign of deceit from her words and on her face but I found none. She was still looking at me expectantly and I remembered that she had asked me to forgive her.
"I forgive you" she grinned after she heard that. "May my King live long" she said still smiling "Oh before I forget" she said and clapped her hands together. Immediately two other maidservants came in carrying with them a keg of palm wine and several plates.
I and Ekong just kept watching as everything unfolded. It seems Olanna really prepared for this. "My King, garnished snails and roasted meat. I prepared them myself just for his Highness." She looked so proud of herself at that moment and I couldn't help but smile too.
I finally looked at her attire. She wore a wrapper the shade of the sky. She adorned herself with beads upon beads on her neck, waist and arms. I found myself frowning at that for the beads around her neck was obstructing my view of her bosom. My eyes wandered down to her legs and down to the bead on her ankle... "My King?" Her voice snapped my attention to her face. She was presenting a bowl of water for me to wash my hands. I smiled and washed my hands hoping she had not caught me staring. Even if she did, she didn't act awkward about it.
She placed the bowl of snails first and it was so delicious. The last time I ate garnished snails was when mother was alive. She always prepared it during the evenings before dinner. I stopped eating them because no one ever made it the exact way mother prepared it. Olanna's snail dish wasn't exactly like mother's but it was close to it.
We talked about random things as we ate... mostly as I ate. If it was when she had first arrived to my palace I would have thought that she had poisoned the food. But now I know what Olanna is capable and not capable of.
