Edikan's POV
After the little tour I had in Umunri village I noticed that they had streams and not rivers.
They were more of farmers than fishermen so I brought Olanna to the fish market.I thought that the gasp I heard from her was enough to make a smile appear on my face. But when I turned to look at her and her friends their identical surprise faces caused a sound to escape from my lips.
I was laughing and it didn't feel odd doing it in front of her and other people. I only laughed this freely when am with Eka Iyene. My laugh must have startled them because they composed themselves. My friend Eno- Obong was grinning.
"Come let us go and and take a look around" I told them. I think Olanna understood me. Because instead of waiting for my friend to interpret she just followed me like she was in a trance. She was smiling now as we walked around the market.
Eno- Obong was explaining to her what each object for fishing was used for as she pointed at them. I wish I could understand her language so I could be the one explaining these things to her. It was my idea after all.
Instead I led them to things that I knew will capture her attention.
Nnenna's POV
The people of Eket village were more of fishermen than farmers. Now I understand why the cook there soup with so much sea food that one would think the use it as vegetables. I Olanna and Nneka were so flabbergasted with what we are looking at right now.
If we thought that the canoe that carried us here was so big and long then we were wrong for the ones we are looking at right now is so big it could contain almost half of the village.
The King and his entourage took us deeper into the market as his interpreter Eno, as I heard Olanna call him explain to us how the fishermen men use a cloth like material with holes called "Iyire" (fishing net) to catch fishes.
We watch as kids swim around the bank of the river as the older ones dive deeper into the river while the women carry the fish in a basket back to shore.
This place is so fascinating. We were about rounding a corner when a woman grabbed my hand speaking hurriedly as she dragged me in front of a huge basket with... wait is that a fish? A basket of fish!! That size!!!
"Olanna come look!!!" I was still looking at the fish with wide eyes as I heard her approaching with the others "What is it... Chi m is that a fish!" I heard her say behind me. I just nodded as I stared at it wide eye.
"Nneka come take a look" Olanna shouted beside me as I tried to pick one from the basket but I immediately dropped one when I felt someone slap my hands a bit gently "Ow" I looked up and saw one of the warriors eyeing me.
I recognized him as the one that blocked our path the first day we met the King back home. "Hey I was not going to steal it, I was just taking a look" I told him a bit angry now.
He just opened his mouth and closed it like a fish. " He didn't mean to slap you that hard. The fishes are still alive and they tend to bite when it's a matter of life and death" Eno said coming towards us. Oh. I was about apologizing to the warrior but he just turned back and left taking his position beside the King who was just smiling which was weird because he never smiles.
