Olanna's POV
I woke up refreshed after a dreamless night. The sleep didn't help at all with my mood instead it brought with it a jarring truth that I was stuck in a strange land.
"By the look on your face I believe you slept very well" Nneka asked already dressed. "Let me help you wash yourself then I will go tell them you are ready to take your lunch" What? "Lunch?" I asked "Yes lunch she said smiling you slept through breakfast" What?
Now I was sure my eyes were wide. "Why didn't you wake me?" Am sure Edikan's mother will think that I am lazy. "The King's Aunt insisted that no one wakes you up. She said that you needed it. I was happy she insisted because you truly needed it" Nneka said going out, I assume going to tell someone about my lunch.
Now am confused who is his Aunt? Nneka walked in this time with Nnenna. "Who is his Aunt?" I asked "Oh the woman we saw at the King's Obi when we arrived. That's Eka Iyene. She has being taken care of the King since his parents died" Nneka said opening the bowls. This time it was egusi soup and garri. The soup was garnished with fish and all kinds of strange meat.
"They said that she practically raised him after his parents died at the age of 10. He was so young to lose his parents. Poor child" Nnenna said earning a look from Nneka. "What?" Nnenna asked. "He is not to be pitied. Look at what he did to our friend." Nneka said frowning. Nnenna snorted "I do not pity him. I pity the child that he was. Maybe that is why he is so arrogant and mean."
I just focused on my food not minding their arguments. "That reminds me. The King asked of you while you were asleep." I paused turning to Nneka. "Why?" I asked " He didn't say he just asked me to tell him once you wake up. But am yet to tell him. I wanted to ask you if it's alright to let him know" I just nodded and continued my food.
I prayed to the gods that I would just hide in my hut as the world went by. But I knew that as a Queen I would have a role to play in this Kingdom. I didn't even know what am supposed to do. I can't remember what Mother did as a Queen. I was too young when she died to even remember what she looked like. And I wasn't trained to be a Queen. So I know nothing about being a Queen. This saddened me more. I have not thought of this while we were on our way here.
I was washing my hands when Nneka walked in "The King ask that you meet him at his Obi when you have eaten and properly dressed." Nneka said.
I changed my clothes and my friends helped me with my hair. They led me to the throne grounds when I was done. There I saw Edikan sitting on his throne. Two warriors were beside him. I recognized one warrior as the one who blocked our path that first time we met. His interpreter also sat there.
There was no sit beside his. I thought the Queen sits beside the King. Well it seems that he is yet to see me as one so I was still his subject. When I got before him I bowed as a proper lady should "Greetings my King. I was told I was summoned by his majesty." I said knowing his interpreter will tell him what I said.
He looked at me stood up and walked past me. "His majesty wants to take you on a tour around the Kingdom" His interpreter said.
It was when I turned towards were Edikan left that I saw that he was going towards the palace entrance and what seems like an entourage were waiting at the entrance.
"My name is Eno- Obong" His interpreter said as he walked me towards the entrance were five warriors and three maid servants with Edikan who have reached them were waiting for us. I smiled at Eno- ... eh what was the other name?
"Do you mind if I call you Eno your name is too long" I told him and he just laughed " What? does only 'Eno' not have a meaning? Does it have to be accompanied by the other name?" I asked feeling like maybe I have insulted him by not saying the complete name.
