Edikan's POV

We made our way back to the palace as the moon illuminated our path. I made Ekong promise me not to tell Olanna or anyone what I told him. I relieved him of his duty when we reached the palace grounds.

I was few feet to my hut when I noticed a figure in front of my door. I walked closer only to see Eka Iyene sitting on stool as she leaned on the door sleeping. I have almost forgotten how stubborn she could be, almost.

I was almost tempted to run back to the bush. But the fact that she could have a sore neck by morning made me rethink my decision.

"Eka, you will get a cold if continue sleeping here." I said patting her gently. She opened her eyes as she took in her surroundings. Then her eyes landed on me. "You finally decided to come back. We need to talk" she said massaging her neck. "Can't we have this talk tomorrow?" I asked hopefully. She gave a loud snort "So you will run off to wherever you always run off to?. No we are having this talk now young man!" I winced as she raised her voice. At least she doesn't know where I run off to.

We both got into my hut and sat on the bed. I looked to the ground as I waited for her to say what she had in mind. I waited for what felt like an hour but nothing. I raised my head and saw her looking at. "Why have you being avoiding me?"

"Eka, I wasn't..." I shut up when she raised her hand in my face. "Don't you dare lie to me young man." I winced. She heaved a long sigh. "Why didn't you tell me?" She asked again. "I am sorry I didn't tell you and you had to hear it the way you did. And I didn't know Olanna was pregnant. No one told me." I told her

"What do you expect Edikan? She was married. so of course she was bound to be pregnant."
We remained in silence for a while. "Why do you choose her anyway? Is her elder sister not as beautiful as she is?"

Why is everyone asking me the same question? I almost screamed. "I just decided to marry her." I told her instead praying to the gods she won't ask any further questions.

"Just like that?" I should have known she won't give up. "You just saw a maiden and decided to marry her without any reason?" She said looking shocked. I just shrugged hoping that will discourage her.

Again I was wrong. Her confused expression instantly turned to being smug. I raised my brows at the sudden change. "You like her don't you?" My eyes became wide accompanied with a loud snort. "Like Olanna?" She frowned "What is it about Olanna that is not likable?"

"You don't know her like I do Eka. She has no manners for a woman and very rude" I told her "Yet you insisted on marrying her" she said raising her brows. "Well... it's because I know I can handle her, tame her..." "Are you sure you can handle her needless tame her?" She asked

"Of course I can" but I don't want to tame her I said not saying the last one out. "Hmmm..." she said thinking. "If you had known about Olanna's pregnancy would you still have married her?" "Yes" I said without hesitating.
Now she was smiling broadly.

I blinked after I understood what I said. "Yes I would marry her because the promise to her father will be in progress. The child will become the heir to the throne of Umunri if it's a male and then she will bear my heir" I said but she was still wearing her smug look.

"Would you treat the child equally if it was a girl and then she will have to live here all her life." "Yes I would, she would be Olanna's child" I said .

She nodded still smiling. We stayed in silence again. "So what do you plan on doing?" "About what" "Olanna of course. She is not going to give herself to you so no sons no grandchildren as well" she said throwing her hands every where.
