A video recently has came up on YouTube and has many authors conflicted on whether or not they are in the wrong. I honestly don't read comments on anything that I haven't posted myself. Such as here on wattpadd I read the comments left on the things that I write and if I'm going to leave a comment or a message on someone's message board I will read through some of the comments to make sure its not the same thing someone else has said. I don't read the comments on YouTube videos at all because I don't comment on them. I do know that some people do and have read some demeaning comments about fan fiction writers/readers. The video that I saw was made by a news type site but for kpop. I'm not sure if this is the video people are seeing but I imagine it is because in the title it claims to have comments from Kim Taehyung. This video is not talking about the books that are written for entertainment purposes only. This video is talking about the erotica books the smut books that are specializing 2 idols. Its talking about how people are reading and writing these books and then bringing up these boy x boy or girl x girl ships and trying to make it a reality. The comments that they used from Taehyung were from his reply to a fan telling him to do like she does by looking at a picture of Jungkook and thinking about him. His response to get out of her imagination cause its not a good place to be can be interpreted in two ways. The first being that she has no chance with Jungkook and shouldn't even imagine it, I don't think that was what he was saying because these fantasies of meeting your idol and them falling in love with you is what helps to sell tickets and merchandise. The second way it could have been meant was why would he think about and look at a picture of his little brother to fall asleep and that thinking they are a couple isn't right.
I personally don't think that he was saying that fan fiction needs to stop. I'm not sure about it completely but I believe that they are aware of the fan fiction books and ships. Whether they read it or not we will never know. The fan fiction is not the problem. The problem is that there are fans out there so obsessed with their ships that they believe them to be real and think that they have the right to comment about it to the idols or attack other people who are seen with the idol.
I'm in America so my stance on the LGBT community is that you can be and love who you want its not my business and doesn't hurt me a bit. Unfortunately though there are countries out there who don't share the same opinion and being locked up in jail or worse is a punishment for homosexuality. I don't think Korea goes that far but I do know that it's not ok and that many of the younger generations are more accepting of it but it is still unacceptable. So even if that ship you want to happen is happening or could happen odds are it will be hidden so deeply you will never know. Then again it could be something that will never happen and depending on what the idol believes and feels when a fan is claiming a forbidden relationship real that idol could feel attacked or disgusted.
The problem is not the fan fiction the problem is with people believing that the fiction they read is fact.
The answer to the question is no fan fiction is not wrong when it is used for entertainment purposes only.
