Nharro's POV
Our way home seemed normal.
My guitar was with me like it was every Friday.
I was walking home with Tari, but it was quieter than my expectations.
I can't blame anyone for that. We recently went headfirst to an NDE.
I mean, this wasn't our first.
There was that one time I almost got hit by a truck.
Another incident was when Tari almost got hit by a car.
There were other near-accidents too before that, which reminds me of how swift death can be.
Tari and I stood in front of my house, just before the door.
We were still both silent.
I had to break it.
"Tari, let's not let that incident ruin our day," I said while unlocking the door.
She nodded as she walked in, tossing her bag to the couch. I did the same.
I moved on to the kitchen for a snack then turned around to see what my best friend was doing.
Tari grabbed a folder from her bag and flipped through its contents.
She then pulled a poster out of the papers.
"There's an audition for the High School Week talent show tomorrow. We should try it out," Tari suggested.
It might take our mind off the whole incident.
I agreed with her idea.
I already knew what our performance would be.
I grabbed my guitar and positioned myself on the couch to say, "I assume you want us to sing for the show?"
"Exactly."
"What song?"
That made Tari silent.
She then began pacing the room with her hand to her chin.
We needed a good song to get us in the show.
That gave me an idea.
While Tari was pacing and slapping her head with her palm, I grabbed my phone and played My Escape by Ravenscode.
Tari stopped in her tracks and smiled at me.
"Our theme song sounds like a good choice," I said to her.
"This is when I know you really are my best friend."
I chuckled a bit at that.
I started to play the song on my guitar.
The song was meant for one person, but Tari and I made it a duet.
Tari began to sing.
Would you help me to find a new way?
Would you guide me through all this again?
Don't let me slip away.
I need you here 'till the very end.
Then I sang.
So stay here with me.
There's so much love in you're smile when I look at your face, and I'm here to stay.
You're my first and my last love, and you're my escape.
Then both of us.
So, tell me you'll be right here with me.
