Chapter 19

I jumped.

Like really.

My head hit the top of my locker, making me wince.

''Are you okay?'' the voice behind me asked, reminding me she was still there.

Amanda.

How the hell was I supposed to face her again? Why was she here? Did her parents really wanted me to suffer? Questions after questions were swirling through my mind.

The most important question was: Was she still that same bitchy girl from last time?

Slowly and hesitantly, I turned around to face her, a bit of my hair covering my face like a curtain.

I really had to question myself this. Why didn't I get a buddy when I first came here? Besides, she was still a sophomore if I were to be her buddy.

I could see her trying to peer through my hair to try and get a better look of my face.

''Yeah?'' I croaked, not trusting my voice completely.

''I'm new here,'' she stated again, finally giving up on trying to look at my face. ''Could you show me around? To the office, at least.''

Her voice was warm and not the cold one I knew from all those years.

I sighed, not really wanting to do what I was about to do.

Slowly, I lifted my head, making the curtain that was my hair to open up, revealing my face. ''You might not want me to do that,'' I told her.

She gasped, and took a step back. Instantly, the warmness in her eyes fade, and I knew it was too good to be true. But what happened next surprised me.

Her blue orbs filled with raw remorse and sadness. She clasped a hand over her mouth, and as she tried to speak, nothing came out. She was just opening and her mouth like a fish.

''What?'' I said, a little too harshly, ''No bitchy comments?''

It felt good to snap at the person who contributed to making my life a living hell. However, though, I felt slightly bad given that she felt guilty. If the look in her eyes did showed remorse, though.

''Oh, god, I knew there was a reason for this...'' I heard her breathe to herself. That caught my attention.

''You mean to say your parents changed your school?'' I asked harshly. She nodded numbly.

''They're your parents too...'' she muttered.

I scoffed. ''Don't you try and fool me. You know perfectly well I was adopted because your bitch of a mother thought she couldn't give birth anymore, and when she found out she was pregnant with you, she started to not give a damn about me,'' I hissed lowly for only her to hear, and with that, I made a sharp turn and walked away.

I was vaguely aware of the curious crowd that has formed, and that included Mr. P, who was looking at me in disapproval. He walked towards me, and I knew what to expect.

''Ms Brooks, what you did towards the new student just there was very rude! I expected better from you. We should set a good example to those who just joined us,'' Mr. P chided.

I was tempted to tell him that Amanda was a part of my horrible past, but I held that in. ''Sure,'' I replied vaguely, turning to walk away. I was really tired right now and didn't bother to put up with him.

I met up with my friends by the lockers, and after we greeted, we chatted till the bell rang.

''Hey, why do you look so gloomy?'' Morgan nudged me gently with her elbow.
