Chapter 3

That bastard!

Surprisingly, it wasn't Matt who I was talking about. Although he had left me there. For the police to catch. Not that he had a reason to help but...

The real reason why I was mad was because of the guy on the phone who was at the basement where the underground fighting was held. He was actually a police in disguise. I snorted mentally. Just as I had referred Matt as a woman in disguise.

Speaking of Matt, I couldn't seem to get him off my mind. His ocean blue eyes that darkened to midnight blue when he was angry. His dark brown almost black hair that made messy hair a stylish hairstyle. His muscles and abs that could be seen through his dress shirt.

Now that I think of it, I had seriously no idea why he was wearing a dress shirt to a fight.

''HEY!'' the police officer snapped. Oops. Guess I had been spacing out while he was talking to me. ''I said, you're damn lucky you are only 17. So you will not be jailed or anything.'' My heart leapt in relief. But then I remembered something important.

''Wait, if I'm still not an adult, must I go back to my parents?'' Oh god, please say no, please say no...

''Again, you're one lucky gal. In case you don't know, according to your file, your birthday is tomorrow. Which means you're gonna be 18. A legal adult...'' So that meant...yes! I didn't had to go back to the hell hole!

If it wasn't for the police officer in front of me, I would have done a happy dance. ''However, you have to finish high school.'' I waited for him to say more.

When he didn't, I exhaled a long breath. ''Phew, that isn't so bad...''

''Uh, yeah. So here's the information you need about the school. They have a financial assistance scheme for troubled people like you,'' he said, handing me a brochure with the words MacArthur High in big bold letters.

So now I'm being referred to as troubled.

Reading the contents, I realised I actually couldn't wait to go back to school and make some friends.

And this time my parents couldn't stop me.

''Riiiiiing!''

Ugh...

''Riiiiiiiiing!''

Make it stop....

''Riiiiiiiiiiiiii-''

I slammed my hand on my alarm clock, finally having enough of the constant ringing.

With heavy eyes, I looked towards the alarm clock. It stated 7:15 but it wasn't moving anymore.

I flopped back onto my bed, ready to go back to sleep, when I realised I had set my alarm clock for a reason.

Today was the day I went back to high school.

I jumped off my thin and cheap mattress, heading for the bathroom.

After showering, brushing my teeth and drying my hair, I decided to look good on my first day. It was kind of weird joining a school in the middle of the year, so people would wonder who I was. I decided to look good as I wanted to make a good impression.

Leaving my hair down and naturally wavy, I put on enough make up to cover the bruises on my face. I decided on a white tank top and black and blue flannel shirt which I left unbutton and the sleeves rolled up to my elbow, paired together with denim shorts. As a growing teenage girl, I had actually set aside some money to buy second-hand clothes.
