you're not sure which is worse
When Clara left the house, she saw other people on her street heading towards the green. It was eerie. the streets were silent. The street lights were the only source of light as no house lights were on.
The green was busy when Clara got there. She waded through the crowd to find Kelly. Standing near the front next to Gwen, she found her. Kelly wasn't going to deal with whatever this was well as her mother and her were very close.
"Hey, so who decided we needed a flash mob," Grizz said, approaching the group of teenagers from the back.
"I did."
"What the fuck Cassandra."
"Better than 200 people sending texts."
The girl had a point.
"Has anyone been able to reach anyone?"
Everyone mumbled no, both tired and scared.
"There's definitely a simple explanation."
"Like what," said an unknown voice from the cluster.
Cassandra stammered over her words trying to find a reason that would make sense
"Um, they were evacuated and there was a miscommunication and we were brought back here by mistake."
"Someone would still answer a phone," Kelly argued, the first time that she had spoken that night.
Cassandra deterred that statement quickly. Clara could feel something more dark was at play here.
"We'll figure this all out in the morning. Right now we should all just uh, go home"
"Is that your advice Cassandra," said Harry, who Clara hadn't even noticed was standing next to Kelly and her.
There was no way that Clara was going to sleep in that house herself, so she had asked Kelly if she could stay over at her. She knew Harry would most likely be there as well. If all she heard that night was moans, at least she knew she wasn't alone.
Halfway when they were walking home, they all got a notification on their phones. It was from Luke. There was going to be a party on the green. They looked at each other.
"Maybe it'll take our minds off of things," Clara suggested.
Harry and Kelly nodded their heads and then turned on their heels to walk back to the green.
"The Fuckin Church is open!"
Clara saw a group of teenagers run into the church, screaming into the night. Helena stood outside, watching people she thought as her classmates wreck her church. A place, in her mind, that should be treated with the utmost respect.
"Fucking savages," Helena muttered under her breath as she walked away.
Nevertheless, Clara, Harry and Kelly walked through the high doors of the church to reveal the impromptu rave. They all got lost in the crowd. Clara was dancing with Gwen, Kelly was talking to Jessica and Harry did both. At one point, he was on top of the altar.
Clara was pouring herself a drink when she saw Allie kissing Will. If she saw her doing this six months ago, she probably would've thrown a punch at Allie but her crush on Will had gone away now. Good for Allie, Clara thought.
She turned around to be face to face with Campbell Eliot. Campbell and Max were very close growing up so Campbell was always around Clara. To her, Campbell was a creep. Sam had told her years ago about how he was diagnosed as a psychopath after what happened with the bird and Clara had never seen him the same.
"Campbell, always a delight," she said, the sarcasm pouring out.
"How are you coping without your big brother to protect you."
"I'm doing just fine thank you very much," Clara said, wanting the conversation to end.
"I think Max would want me to protect you, wouldn't he now."
"No, I don't think he fucking would," she said while kneeing him in the balls, flipping him off and walking away.
