Natalia's P.O.V
----------
'Natalia, your father, Desmond Cowell? He was my brother.'The words repeated over and over in my mind.
There must've been some kind of mistake!
There is no way my father was a Viking.
I stared at Valka, hoping she was going to suddenly yell, 'PSYCHE!'
Nope.
Zilch. Nada. Zero. Nothing.
She was deadly serious.
Rose and I stared incredulously at each other.
I turned to Valka, feeling like I was going to pass out. Maybe that was because I had stopped breathing.
Huh.
Might be a good idea to breathe.
I took a huge breath as Hiccup and Valka looked at me with worry.
"Do you mind if I speak briefly with my friend?" I asked faintly.
"No, not at all dear!" Valka said.
I nodded in thanks, not quite trusting my voice.
Rose and I walked to the other side of the room.
I turned to her. "Help! What do I do?!" I asked Rose frantically.
Rose thought for a moment.
"Okay, you need to calm down first," she ordered.
I forced my breathing to slow.
"Good." Rose said. "Now, we need to think of the facts." she stated.
"Your dad, was a time traveler. You once told me that your mom met him on the seashore, and that she never found out where he was born. Do you think it was possible that he was born in this time, but traveled to the future?"I though about this. It actually made a lot of sense.
"Yes, that makes sense!" I said aloud. "Time travel is a series of chemical reactions pushing you back through the layers of time. If my dad were to come across the two chemicals that cause it, when he lived here, maybe it would have forced him forward in time! That's incredible."
"Wow," Rose murmured. "Your mom is from the future, and your dad is from the past. That's cool."
"But wait," I said, perplexed. "what does that make me? A Viking?"
Rose shrugged. "Dunno," she answered.
"Poor dad," I said sympathetically. "just imagine, being who knows how young, then pushed forward in time to a place that is totally foreign to him, and not knowing what's going on or anything."
"Yeah, that would've been terrible." Rose replied.
We both went into our own thoughts, and a silence descended on the house.
I jumped when a gentle hand landed on my shoulder.
"Are you alright Natalia?" Valka asked gently.
"Yes, I'm fine." I answered. "It just comes as a bit of a shock you know?"
Valka smiled.
"Yes, I understand," she said. "it came as a shock to me as well."
Hiccup walked over to our little group.
"Wait," he said. "mom, does that make Natalia my cousin?"'Okay, this feels so weird.' I thought.
"Yes is does Hiccup." Valka said, smiling widely.
Hiccup smiled. "Cool," he stated.
She turned to me. "Natalia dear, you can call me Aunt Valka," Then she looked at Rose.
"and you as well Rose. I see how close you are to my niece."
Rose grinned at Valk- Aunt Valka.
"Thank you," she said.
"Mom, I need to go to another chief meet up," Hiccup said, grabbing some gear or something from across the room.
When did he walk way over there?
I shook my head.
Clearly, I was tired and disoriented.
Aunt Valka ran to hug him.
"See you later Hiccup. Love you." she said.
Hiccup smiled and hugged back.
"Love you too mom."
He smiled at me as he passed for the door.
"It's nice to have another cousin," he said. "see you later Natalia. I will admit, you are much more pleasant to hang around than my other cousin, Snotlout."
"Hiccup!" Aunt Valka scolded.
Hiccup laughed and shrugged his shoulders at Aunt Valka.
"Well it's the truth! C'mon bud!" He beckoned to Toothless, who jumped up and ran after Hiccup.
"Later Toothless!" I waved to Toothless as he passed.
Toothless smiled a toothy smile at me.
"Bye Natalia! See you at sunset."
Then the two ran out the door.
Aunt Valka smiled at me.
"Natalia, I have some errands to run," she said. "but you and Rose feel free to roam the town." she glanced at our clothes.
"Oh, and you might want to change your clothes," she threw both of us a some clothing.
"wherever you were living, has very strange clothing. You'll stick out like a sore thumb."
Aunt Valka grabbed her staff.
Cloudjumper got up from where he had been sitting and observing silently.
Aunt Valka jumped up on Cloudjumper with ease and they started for the door.
"Goodbye till later Natalia, Rose." Cloudjumper nodded to us as he passed.
Rose and I both waved at the two.
"Oh, one more thing!" Aunt Valka called from the doorway.
"Welcome to the family you two."
Then they were gone.
We were both silent for a moment.
Rose and I glanced at each other, then to our surroundings, then to the clothing Aunt Valka had given us, then back to each other again.
"This is really weird," we said simaltaneously.
Then we laughed.
Taking turns to change into Berk clothing in one of the rooms, we then hurried out, eager to see what the rest of Berk looked like.
As we passed a big reflective shield, I did a double take on my reflection.
I looked nothing like how I had four or five hours ago.
I actually looked like a Viking.
So did Rose.
We looked at each other, wide eyed.
"I feel very different," Rose stated.
"No lie." I added.
We passed the loud Blacksmith shop.
I turned every which way at every sound.
There was so much action and Vikings running around, it was hard to keep track of everything.
Just then, a small group of children ran by with small swords, playing fake battles or...something.
An older but still young Viking girl followed. She had dark green eyes, and straight brown hair that fell to her shoulders.
She wore Black leggings, a blue sweater, a brown vest, and brown boots.
She seemed to be the one keeping an eye on the children.
Then one of the small boys ran right by Rose and I, nearly causing us to fall over.
"Agnus! Please mind the other people!" The girl called to the boy who had practically bowled us over.
"Sorry Minow!" he called back.
The girl that I now knew as Minow, smiled at him and shook her head.
Then she turned to us.
"Sorry about Agnus," she apologized to us. "he's a bit too rambunctious sometimes."
Rose and I both grinned at her.
"It's no problem," we assured her.
Minow held out her hand.
"I'm Minow," she said.
I shook her hand, then Rose followed suit.
"My name is Natalia Cowell," I said.
"And I'm Rose Fitch." Rose said after.
Minow scanned our faces.
"I haven't seen you around before," she said. "have you just moved here?"
"Ummmm,"
I couldn't think of what to say.
"We didn't move here-" I started.
"-We're just visiting our Aunt Valka." Rose cut in.
I sighed in relief.
Nothing I'm worse at than lying.
Well, unless it's like imperative that I lie, or I die or something...
Minow stared at us. "You're cousins with the chief?" she asked.
Oops.
Maybe that wasn't such a good lie after all.
"Yep, hehe," Rose said weakly.
"Good ol' Hiccup, our cousin." I said just after.
Minow stared at us.
Well.
This is awkward.
Then she smiled at us.
"Cool," she said.
Rose and I sighed with relief.
"Actually, we were just going for a walk," Rose said. "you could join us? Only if you wanted to of course."
Minow smiled brightly.
"I'd like that," she said. "just let me get someone else to watch the children."
She walked over to a big Viking woman, and gestured to the kids.
The Viking woman nodded and smiled at her. Minow smiled and thanked her, then ran back to us.
"The children are in Matilda's care now," she stated.
"Right, let's go then." I answered.
We strolled through the town for a while, talking, joking, and getting to know each other.
Finally, we passed a large forest, and I realized how far from town we had walked.
Minow backed up nervously.
"We shouldn't go in there," she said.
"there are dangerous Dragons in there that Chief Hiccup has not trained yet."
Rose and I looked at each other.
"Nonsense!" We said simaltaneously.
"It looks fine," I said. "let's go."
"Okay," Minow said, unsure.
Well, let's just say, it hadn't been my smartest idea today, or this week.
We walked in, Minow still slightly nervous, and Rose and I harmonizing a Norse ditty we had often sung with my mom.
Eventually, Minow relaxed, and started singing with us.
And just then, was when the trouble started.
A low growl, made us falter in our song.
We stopped dead in our tracks.
A rustle moved the bush to our left, then another one on our right.
Pretty soon, all the bushes were moving slightly.
With a sinking feeling in my stomach, I realized we were surrounded.
Then, a ripple just in front of us revealed a previously invisible Dragon.
We stumbled back in shock.
It was quite large, and as sort of reddish brown colour.
A bit of strange green stuff fell out of its mouth and it landed on the ground, instantly burning away the leaves and twigs it fell on.
I gulped.
That would not be a picnic if it fell on our skin.
Then, more ripples, and Dragons revealed themselves, snarling angrily.
Then, I recognized the the Dragons.
"Changewing," I whispered.
Rose tugged on my arm.
"Natalia, you know how vicious these Dragons get, you've read your mom's journals," she said quietly.
"we're surrounded. You have to flash us out of here."
"But Minow's here!" I protested.
"And which one's better," Rose asked. "losing our lives and keeping our secret, or living, and scaring Minow?"
I nodded my head.
Good point.
"Minow," I called to her. "I need you to hold onto Rose okay?"
Minow nodded, being surprisingly stoic for how nervous she was earlier.
"What are you going to do?" she asked.
"I'm getting us out of here." I stated.
"Try to bring us to Hiccup's house," Rose murmured to me.
I nodded to show I had heard.
The Dragons rushed forwards with vicious snarls, acid spewing towards us.
The adrenaline of the moment rushed through me, and too late I realized that it might be a problem.
I slammed my hands together, and a bright flash, too bright, surrounded us.
The world blurred around us, I felt a hard push, and I realized the adrenaline had fueled the time travel.
We landed with a bang in a city.
Not my city.
I looked around at the floating hovercrafts? That were flying way above in the air.
Like, way, way up there.
Just down an alley to our right, there was a group of shady looking people, all cheering as clanking and crashing sounds filled the air.
'Looks like a fighting circle.' I thought.
Yup.
Definitely not my city.
Irritated, I rubbed my burning ankle.
Rose and Minow stood beside me, looking disoriented.
Then Rose and I shared a panicked look.
"Where are we?" Rose asked in a whisper.
I shrugged.
"I literally have no clue," I replied.
"Well, hurry and get us to Berk!" Rose exclaimed. "hurry, before Minow stops being disoriented."
I glanced at Minow.
"I'm surprised she didn't pass out." I said.
"Must be a Viking toughness thing," Rose answered.
I rubbed my head to ease the pounding headache.
"I can't do many more jumps," I admitted to Rose.
"I need sleep. This massive jump sucked a lot out of me."
Rose looked closely at me.
"Yeah, your skin is pretty pale," she said.
I nodded.
"Grab Minow's arm," I said. "she's too disoriented to hold on herself right now."
Rose complied and grabbed a hold of Minow's upper arm.
Slowly, I felt the warmth seeping down my arms.
Just as I clapped my hands together, I happened to look up at a sign in the distance.
The name of the city.
San Fransok- I couldn't see the rest as a bright flash surrounded us.
I felt the normal sucking feeling as we traveled back in time.
'Weird.' I thought.
'I feel a sucking feeling when we travel back in time, but a pushing feeling when I travel forward in tim-'
Wait, what?
That had been forward in time?
Something must've happened between my time, and theirs.
Street fights?
Garbage on the streets?
Unheard of in my time.
That was a criminal offense and you would get arrested.
I shook my head as a wave of exhaustion filled me, making my thoughts sluggish.
We landed back at Hiccup's house, right in the front of it.
It was sunset, so we must've been gone almost six hours.
I grabbed onto Rose as I nearly fell over.
The world was spinning and swirling around me.
Then, my knees buckled, and I feel over completely.
Rose kneeled beside me, saying something, but I couldn't hear her.
I laid my head down as I struggled to stay conscious.
Suddenly, the hairs on my neck rose. You know the feeling when you just know someone's watching you?
Wait, when had Toothless said he and Hiccup would be getting back?
At sunset?
OH NO./////////////

Ha!
LOL.
Psyche!
I'm not done yet.
Not quite. ;)
Let us continue.
////////////Hiccup's P.O.V
I jumped off of Toothless, in town, just a small walk from my house.
I walked into the Blacksmith shop, where Gobber was hammering away at some tool or another.
He saw me, and put his tool down.
"Nice of you to drop in once and a while, chief," he joked.
I laughed, then turned sober.
"Do you remember a man by the name of Desmond Cowell?" I asked him.
Gobber turned sober as well.
"Valka's older brother," he said sadly.
"Poor Valka. I remember, sometimes she'd go on walks in the woods, with the excuse of collecting herbs for soup. But really, she was mourning her brother, who's birthday had been that day."
I felt bad.
That must've been before I was born, because mom had still been on Berk.
"Gobber," I said slowly.
"a young girl came to Berk today. I met her by Gothi's hut. Her name is Natalia Cowell."
Gobber stilled.
"Desmond Cowell is alive?" he asked incredulously.
I shrugged.
"I don't know," I said. "I hope so, for Natalia's sake, but I haven't heard anything about him until his daughter came. She's searching for him. Her and her friend, Rose Fitch."
Gobber shook his head slowly.
"That's quite the story to wrap my head around," he said. Then he smiled.
"No use hanging around here Hiccup," he stated as he started pushing me out of the Blacksmith shop.
"go hang out with your new cousin!"
I laughed at him, then started walking off.
"Later Gobber!" I called back at him.
Gobber laughingly waved me off, then walked back inside.
I walked with Toothless down the path that lead to our house, with Toothless bouncing beside me anxiously.
"What's wrong bud?" I asked him.
He glanced at me.
"You do not know Natalia like I do," he stated. "its not a good idea to leave her alone for more than twenty minutes. Thor knows what she's gone and done now!"
I looked at him.
"So, you've known Natalia for a while?" I asked, shock and surprise lacing my tone.
Toothless looked at me guiltily.
"Uhhhhh, yes?" It came out like a question.
I shook my head.
"Thanks for telling me about her Toothless." I said sarcastically.
Toothless grinned at toothless grin at me.
Just then, mom ran up to me.
"Hiccup! Have you seen Natalia or Rose?" She asked, looking worried.
"No I haven't." I replied, becoming alert.
"I haven't seen them since this afternoon!" mom exclaimed. "They were going to explore the town! Hiccup, I can't lose Natalia too, she's all I have left from my brother."
Oh great.
I had a bad feeling this wasn't going to turn out well.
"Mom, calm down," I said soothingly. "we'll find them. Let's just grab some lanterns from the house, then we'll search for them."
Mom nodded thankfully.
Together, we walked toward the house, which was now just in front of us.
Without warning, a bright light filled the air in front of us.
Mom and I covered our eyes to keep from going practically blind.
When the light faded, to my absolute shock and disbelief, three girls stood there.
One was a girl from the village, Minow I think. The other two were Rose and Natalia.
Unable to move from shock just yet, I watched as Natalia reached out for Rose and clutched at Rose's arm to keep from falling.
But it was all in vain.
She collapsed, and Rose kneeled beside her, most likely soothing her.
"Oh no, not again!" Toothless exclaimed with worry as he bounded forward.
What was going on here?? Was she okay?
Mom and I exchanged a glance.
Then mom raced for Natalia, and kneeled beside her as well.
She helped her sit up, as Rose and Natalia looked at each other in worry.
But it was a different type of worry.
It wasn't a, are-you-okay-because-you-don't-look-well type of thing.
It was more of a Oh-no-we're-in-trouble-because-they-caught-us-doing-our-magic.
Or, whatever it was that they had just done.
I looked back at the scene in front of me.
Valka was supporting Natalia as they walked into the house, while Rose soothed Minow, who looked kinda freaked out.
I shook my head as I ran forward after them.
The only way to find out answers was to go to the source.
Something really big was going on here, and I intended to find out what.
What if they were in trouble?
I vowed to myself I would help them, no matter what was going on.A/N
Aannnddd here it is...the dreaded authors note.
Sorry guys.
I can't put too much into one chapter or there will be no more chapters to write.
Lots of action!
I probably didn't explain the whole father thing very well, but I tried, and I'll do it again.
So basically, when he was a child, Natalia's father found the two time travel chemicals in the woods. He got them on his hands Cuz he touched them because they were glowing or some other stupid thing.
When he touched the chemicals, they absorbed into his hands and he panicked.
He tried to get it off him my brushing his hands together, but we all know by now that it triggers time travel.
He landed in the future, spend a quarter of his life figuring things out, met Cressida Cowell, blah blah blah, the rest is history.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy it!
I will see you Berkians next week!
Sayonara!!
