Natalia's P.O.V

"So now you need the time machine."
"Yeah."
"Which is actually not a time machine, but a machine that creates a synthetic that reacts to another synthetic."
"Yup."
"Which makes it possible to time travel."
"Uh huh."
"So you can rescue your father, who turns out is not dead, but stuck somewhere in the past."
I nodded vigorously. "Exactly!" I said. We were sitting in this awesome little treehouse. Little animals were sitting around us, and in the surrounding tree.
Rose stared at me strangely for a moment. Then her face brightened.
"Kay." she said simply. "When do we start?"
I smiled. "Now!" I said.
She blinked. "Spontaneous. I like it!" She said, absentmindedly petting the bird on her shoulder.
"But first, you're gonna need a reason to be there." I said. "I'll hack the mainframe and direct you through the Building. Maybe...Maybe you should be there as a transfer student. You know, one of those 'lucky' people that win a scholarship."
"Aren't we going to need those communication devices?" Rose asked.
"We are," I replied. "but I think that's already covered. I still have a bunch of spy things from my James Bond stage." "I'll never understand you and liking practically ancient movies." Rose said.
I grinned at her. "They're so cool!" I shouted. "Shhhhhhh!" Rose said quickly, glanced out the window of the small treehouse. "Oops." I whispered. "Can we continue this at my house?" I asked quietly. She nodded.
"That's probably better." she replied, getting up. "I'll just inform the headmistress that I'll be gone for awhile. This'll take some time to plan out."
I nodded as well. "I've got the cookies and chips." I said seriously. She smiled. "And I've got the lemonade. I'll meet you at your house." she answered. Then she raced down the rope ladder, and ran across through the short woods that lead to the foster house.
I quickly followed, carefully stepping over a small chipmunk, then around a small tree frog that was hopping across the floor.
By the time I got home, Rose was already waiting with a packet of quick make lemonade. "How'd you get here first?" I asked in confusion. "I walked." She said, grinning. "You must've been practically crawling for me to get here first!"
I groaned. "Everyone's faster than me!" I exclaimed. "First my mom, then Toothless, now you!"
"Who's Toothless?" Rose asked.
"He's the black Dragon I met years ago, in the Viking days." I said.
"What?? There's Dragons?!" she asked. "Yeah," I answered. "they're just, there. I have no idea where they are nowadays. It's like they disappeared."
"Maybe they're all hiding in the remote parts of the world." Rose said. I shrugged. "Maybe."
We walked into the house. My mom's work was sprawled across the coffee table in the living room. She was nowhere to be seen. "Mom!! I'm home!" I called.
There was silence for a moment, then a whoop sounded from the second floor. A streak of purple and blue sliding down the stairway railing at an alarming rate, alerted me to the arrival of my mom. She jumped off the end of the railing, and bounded breathlessly in front of me.
She engulfed me in a hug as she started talking about what she had been doing.
"I'm so glad you're safe Natalia! Guess what? Thyme made her body catch on fire for the first time today!!"
I stared at mom in utter confusion for a second, until I remembered the little Dragon I named Thyme, was a baby Monstrous Nightmare. It seemed flaming bodies was a common occurrence with these Dragons.
"Who's Thyme?" Rose asked.
"Oh Rose!" My mom turned to hug a confused Rose. "It's good to see you again. Thyme is the Dragon Natalia brought back from the past." she said.
Rose turned to stare at me, as I grinned sheepishly at her.
"I want to see her!" Rose said excitedly.
I turned to mom. "Where is she?" I asked. "oh she's in my room." mom said. Rose raced up the stairs as I followed in hot pursuit. "I'll tell you everything later!" I called down to my mom, who watched us race up in amusement. "Okay!" She answered, walking towards the kitchen.
I walked into mom's room, where Rose was petting Thyme, who sat there looking very confused.
"Who is this?" Thyme asked me. "It's my best friend, Rose Fitch." I answered in Dragonese.
She shrugged. "Okay."
Rose looked at me strangely. "What are those strange noises you're making?" she asked me. "Dragonese." I said. "Dragons are different than regular animals, because they have their own language. You can speak to them if you learn it."
"So you can hear Thyme speaking?" she asked. I nodded. "I want to learn!" She exclaimed. "Okay," I agreed. "It's not that hard. I learned from my mom's history research." Rose looked up at that. "Speaking of research, we should probably find out how to get the Time machine back." she said.
"Yeah," I answered. "I have my laptop right here." I pulled out my black piece of technology, and logged in.
My hands flying over the keyboard, I quickly made Rose an identity in the mainframe of the R and D system. The company that was currently holding the time machine.
"Your name is Ella Rodden, and you're a transfer student from the University of Clear-stone valley." I said. "You also Major in the study of Animal behavior."
Rose shrugged. "Easy enough." she replied.
I then pulled out a small earpiece. "Here," I gave it to her. "we can communicate with this. I'll be watching you through the computer screen. See?" I pointed to a small blue dot on the screen. "The communicator has a small tracking device in it so I can see where you are, and tell you where to go."
"Got it." Rose said seriously. I closed the laptop. "Let's go." I said.
