Natalia's P.O.V
-------
I awoke with a start.
Blinking rapidly, I began to panic because all I saw was black. Was I somehow blind? 'That's going to put a wrinkle in my plans' I thought through my panic.
But no, the darkness shifted.
What?
I pushed my cramped legs outwards, and hit a wall. When I felt with my fingers, the wall was dry and scaly. I realized I must be under Toothless's wing or something. When I pushed in an attempt to get out, he shifted again, this time fully moving off. Bright morning light seared my eyes, and I buried them in my hands.
After adjusting to the light, I lifted my head. Toothless was sitting there watching me. Not knowing what to say, I repeated my thoughts of earlier. "That was your fault." I stated blandly as I slowly got up and brushed off my depressing dress. He, smirked? At me, then said, "On the bright side, I believe you about being a time traveler." I rolled my eyes.
"Well that makes me feel so much better!" I said drily.
"Well, excuse me! At least I didn't let any animals eat you while you slept." he replied.
"Which wouldn't have been a problem in the first place if you hadn't made me Time travel." I said.
"You were gonna eat my fish!" he accused.
I blinked. "What? How does that come into play?" I asked.
This time, he rolled his eyes. "Um, duh! If you hadn't tried to eat my fish, then I wouldn't have tried to blast you, and you wouldn't have started spouting weird stories like a crazy woman, and I wouldn't have made you prove it, and we wouldn't be here now." he said, like that whole sentence had been obvious. "So in a way, all of it's your fault." he added.
"Glad you have that figured out." I deadpanned. "But the problem is not whose fault it is." I said. "The problem, is that for some reason, I can't time travel, and I think I know why, but I don't know how to fix it." He looked super confused.
"What?" He asked, after a moment of silence.
I Facepalmed.
"Look," I said. "I use chemical reactions to time travel. I have, or had, two synthetics in me. One of them has run out, or that's what I'm assuming. It can't be the Nikoline Thresseyaloid, because once that's in you, it never leaves. No, it must be the other synthetic, of which I have no idea what it is, or how to get more. The 'time machine' back home, I think, was just a producer of this synthetic." Toothless looked like he was about to fall asleep. "Wow, glad to know I'm sooo interesting." I said offhandedly.
"I have no idea what you're talking about." he complained.
Just then, something dawned on me.
"Say," I said. "what about that boy you go around with. Hiccup was it?" I asked. "What's going on with him, while you've been hanging around here?" His eyes widened as though the thought never occurred to him. "He's going to be so worried!" He said. "I never miss dinner, and I've just gone and stayed away all night. I have to go."
I waved my hand.
"Well, hurry along then. I'll just be searching for any sign of the synthetic around here."
He narrowed his eyes at me suspiciously.
"What?" I asked.
"I don't trust you by yourself." he said. "you might destroy something, or blow up all of Berk or something."
I gaped at him. "Where would you get that idea?" I demanded.
"Well, I don't know." he defended. "you're like, a time traveler. Who knows what you guys do in your spare time."
"I can assure you it's not that!" I said. "besides, there are no others, I'm the only one."
"Still-"
"Oh just go already." I snapped. "You're making me confused, though who knows how. I need a clear mind to search."
He rolled his eyes again.
"Okay okay, time lady." he said, turning to go.
"My name is Natalia." I sighed.
He shrugged a dragon shrug. "Kay, bye Natalia. See you later, if you don't blow up Berk."
I turned to reply to him, but he was already running away, his dragon laughter echoing through the trees.
"Well, that one is quite the character." I murmured to myself.
I decided to get down to business. I thought back to when I had first time traveled. The other synthetic from the time machine had injected into my arm, only when my arm with the Nikoline Thresseyaloid in it, had gotten close.
'It probably activated when the synthetics neared each other' I thought. 'So, I could use my arm as a compass. That is, if the synthetic is even around here.'
I held out my arm, closed my eyes, and slowly turned in a circle, concentrating. After about a minute or so, my arm tingled ever so slightly when I passed the way to the beach I could see in the distance.
'Aha!' I thought. 'That makes sense. It probably gets drawn to the sea from all the rain and rivers who bring it there. I'll most likely find it in the sand.'
I started walking to the beach, being mindful of the Dragon riders I knew passed overhead every half an hour or so. Once I got to the beach, I felt like sitting down all depressed. The beach was huge.
How was I supposed to find it in all this sand?
'I don't.'
I thought as an idea formed in my mind. 'I need to get just enough to bring me home. Then I can take the time machine, find out how it works, miniaturize it, and then I can start the search for my dad.'
With that thought, I started with renewed vigor.
