Natalia's P.O.V
--------
"Mom!"
"Mom, where are you?!?!"
"Mom! I swear, if you've gone and-"
"I can smell her scent!" Thyme called out, flapping ahead of me.
I sighed. Ten minutes. Ten minutes, is all it took for me to go and lose my mother in the past.
Completely awful on my part?
Yes.
Just a bit dangerous on her part?
Uh huh.
Typical me move?
Yup.
I sighed with relief when I glimpsed my mom's blue sweater she always wore through the trees. I ran up to her. "Mom! You can't just run off like that! There are different rules of life here! It is not safe!" I said.
She turned to face me, her eyes shining with excitement, and a few Terrible Terrors clinging to her as she examined their wingspans. "All my questions Nat!" she exclaimed. "They can be answered! I can have a first hand look at everything that didn't make sense to me. No more putting together pieces of the puzzle through old journals and stories!"
I sighed again, then smiled. Once a historian, always a historian. Most be people would flip out at just the thought of time travel. But not my mother.
Nope.
There she was, collecting first hand information for her next book, I assumed.
"Mom, we can't stray too far from the campsite." I said. She didn't seem to hear me.
I tried again. "Mom, we have to go bac-""-Is that a dragon scale over there?" she shouted. The Terrors scattered at her rather loud tone.
Then my mom ran off again.
I Facepalmed.
"Mooommm!!"

⌚️⌚️⌚️⌚️⌚️⌚️⌚️⌚️⌚️⌚️⌚️⌚️

I sat down with a supressed groan next to the fire of our small camp. I had spent all day running after my mother, who was quite clearly, very high on caffeine and sugar, and she didn't seem to be coming down from her high any time soon.
She was seated a few feet away from me, Thyme curled up in her lap, as she examined the multiple objects she had procured over the day.
There were feathers from some yellow bird, countless different dragon scales she had found shed it the forest. There were shed dragon claws, teeth, lava rocks from the fat dragons, what was it, Grontles? Grundles? Gronkles? Gronkles. That was it. Gronkles. How do they fly?
Seriously.
I really had been pondering that all day. Aerodynamically, it was impossible.
Yet they still did. Really weird if you ask me.
Aha!
There's that old comment again. I strongly dislike that comment. 'If you ask me' I mean, what if, I didn't ask you? And I really didn't want to hear your opinion? (Speaking in a rhetorical sense of course) Really? And I had just said it right there. Man, that's annoying. I saw this one guy, and he was like, 'I think it's stupid, if you ask me.' Then he got beat up, cuz the other guy got so mad. Temper management issues alert!!
Okay, I really went off track, didn't I?
Dang it, I knew it would happen eventually. I get these serious lapses of ADHD, where they come and I just lik- Okay, it happened again.
BACK TO THE STORY!!
So anyways, mom had collected a lot of stuff.
Suddenly, she jumped up. "Natalia, I need you to take me back home." she stated. "What?" I asked, confused. "You just got here. Why do you want to leave?" She scooted around like a hummingbird, gathering her things into the made shift bag she had made from her sweater.
"I have so many ideas, all this information might get lost if I wait to get it down on paper." she explained. Hmm. Okay, that makes sense. "Alright," I agreed, holding out my hands to her. "You have all of your stuff?" She nodded. "Yup. I'm ready."
"Okay, brace yourself." I said, as Thyme once again complained loudly in my ear.
Once again, I ignored her.
The warmth spread down my arms.
One bright flash later, we found ourselves in the kitchen of our house.
My mom stumbled, still not used to time travel. I steadied her, only to find myself stumbling. A wave of exhaustion swept through me. I shook my head to clear it. I let go of mom once we were both stable enough. She started rushing through the house, grabbing her notebooks, pencils, erasers, pens, her laptop, anything to do with writing. I could tell she was going into historian professor mode, so I walked up to my room, leaving Thyme curled up on the table beside mom.
As I entered, the heavy weight that had been on my shoulders for days now, returned.
Something was wrong.
Trying to shake the feeling off, I decided to once again look at the things my father had kept in his small metal box. I read the notes, most of which I had already committed to memory.
As I put it all away, the catch on the metal box jammed, causing me to shake it and bang it against my bed in an attempt to close it. As I banged it harder in irritation, a small black square fell out from under the lock. I picked it up off the bed, and looked closely at it.
It was a USB chip, one of the older models from about five years or so ago.
Curious, I slipped it into the port on my viewing screen. To my complete shock, it was my dad. He was seated in what looked to be his office, himself looking quite ruffled and nervous, continually looking over his shoulder. He looked at the camera and began to speak.
"To my lovely wife and daughter." he said. "If you're watching this, it probably means I'm gone. I am truly sorry for that. This means my daughter will have to grow up without a father, and my sweet Cressida will have to support the family on her own. I feel like I've failed you in so many ways, but if you only you knew the whole story, you would understand." I covered my mouth with my hands as I watched. This must've been just before he disappeared. He glanced over his shoulder again. "I have so much I want to say, and so little time." He laughed. "So ironical, time is." he said bitterly. He then leaned closer to the camera. "If this is my daughter Natalia watching, listen closely. They have it all wrong. Humanity's Future, the Research and Development System. Time travel, yes, it is impossible to achieve it the way they want to. Think about it, Time is many layers upon layers of the space time continuum running on different frequencies, yet all together. They are kept apart by layers of chemical reactions, and technology can only take us so far. To breach these 'time layers', you need a chemical reaction yourself. To achieve time travel, you need variants of these chemicals." He looked nervously towards the door as a series of footsteps resounded through the quiet atmosphere. "Humanity's Future know that I know the secret to time travel, and they're after me right now, as I speak. But to let them, or anyone, have this kind of power...well...the results would be, put simply, catastrophic. The only way to protect this secret, is to disappear. I'm so sorry for this. I will return one day. I swear to Odin. I just wanted you to know, to never give up hope. Until this all settles down, I will live back home. It's just a bit different back in time. I love you Natalia, I love you Cressida. Goodbye." He looked at the camera as he prepared to slam his hands together. The door burst open, just as he disappeared in a giant flash of light. Men poured into the room with guns and a chorus of, 'Put your hands in the air! Criminal and Populace Restrictment department! You are under arrest for the obstruction of human development!' But he was already gone. A man in a suit, with a cold sneer on his face, walked into the room. When he saw that they were too late, he angrily smashed the things off the desk in the room. Spotting the camera that was still blinking on, he walked over and smashed it. The video turned to white noise as a voice announced the end of the transmission.
I stumbled back in shock as one thought whirled through my mind.
My dad was not dead. And he was in the past. As soon as I got out of my shocked trance, I raced downstairs. My mom was still sitting at the table, furiously typing on her laptop. I ran up to her. "Mom," I said. "Hmm?" She asked, looking up. "I have to go back." I said urgently. She looked alarmed. "What? It's not safe there Natalia!" I hopped from foot to foot in impatience. "Yes mom, I know. I was the one who said that in the first place." I waved my hand in dismissal. "Look, it doesn't matter who said it. There's something really important that I have to do." She studied me for a moment. Finally, she leaned back. "Alright," she said reluctantly. "I trust you. Stay safe, stay healthy. Don't do anything I wouldn't do." I smiled. "Mom, that's probably not a good thing to say," I said. "you do some pretty nutty things sometimes." She gave me 'the look'. "Okay, fine." I said, backing up with my hands raised. "I won't do anything crazy. Well, too crazy." "Natalia!" She scolded. I laughed and quickly kissed her cheek. "Kay, I'll be seeing you in the foreseeable future." I said, already concentrating on jumping through the time continuum. The warmth spread down my arms. I clapped them together.
I landed in the same campsite I had left with my mom. I took a step, only to crumple to the ground in exhaustion. I looked in horror at my arms as they got really cold, and somehow, I knew that I would not be able to time travel for a while. I stood up unsteadily, and pondered this problem. If I couldn't time travel for who knows how long, mom would get super worried, I might get in a situation that I couldn't get out of, and I couldn't get any medical attention, because there was no doubt very poor medical help way back now. I shook my head, confused at my own thoughts. I no longer saw the past as the past, instead sometimes the present, or even the future. It was weird. 'I need a place to sleep, and some food.' I thought. I decided to just start walking to wherever fate would take me.
As I walked, I got lost in my thoughts, causing me to look at the ground for most of the time, which then caused me to not see it, until it was too late. The snap of a twig alerted me to look up, and what I saw made me gasp in shock.
Sitting in the clearing, was the large midnight black Dragon, also known as Toothless. I stood frozen in shock for a moment, until I saw a pile of fish just behind him. I grumbled to myself, angry that everyone else could catch fish except for me. Suddenly, I felt super hungry, and I stupidly thought, 'Eh, what's the harm?'
I walked slowly behind him, every step sounding like a drum pounding, it was so loud to me. Apparently, I was walking quieter than I thought, because he never noticed me. I slowly, very slowly, reached out to grab one of the fish. But as I backed away with the fish, he turned around faster than I could blink, growling, with a bit of blue light glowing in his throat.
I jumped back, my painfully bright silver and pink dress flaring out in the light of the sunset. He stopped, and swallowed the light in his throat, which now that I thought about it, was probably fire. He looked at me quizzically. "She must've been that flash of colour I saw from before." he mumbled in Dragonese to himself.
I tried to stop being so tense by starting a conversation. "You saw me earlier?" I asked in Dragonese. "Oh yeah, never mind. I saw you talking with that human boy in the clearing, just over there." I said, waving vaguely in the direction of the clearing. He jumped back, obviously very surprised that I answered him. He frowned suspiciously at me, unsure if he heard right. I relaxed. He probably, most likely, wasn't, going to blast me to Valhalla.

Did she just-no, she wouldn't know Dragonese. I frowned suspiciously at her. Then, she seemed to relax. She looked unlike any Viking I'd ever seen. She looked like she'd never actually seen war, like most of the Vikings had. I decided to see if she could actually hear me. "I'm going to blast you to pieces." I said jokingly. I'd never purposely hurt a human, especially after meeting Hiccup. She tensed again. "Please don't." she replied. "I quite like myself how I am right now, not burnt to a crisp and all black and stuff." So she did hear me. Well, this was a surprising turn of events wasn't it? For some reason, I felt relaxed around this girl. Thinking on it, that was probably because she was blatantly ignorant of war and any fighting whatsoever. She was no threat to me. I tried speaking to her again, but the only thing that came out of my mouth was, "What are you wearing?!" She looked taken aback, then she grimaced as she looked down to her strange attire. "It's just perfectly horrid isn't it?" she asked gloomily. Whaaaa? "why are you wearing it if don't like it?" I asked, very confused now. She shrugged. "It's those muttonhead's policy back home." she said. What was that supposed to mean? "You're confusing me." I stated plainly. "Just where are you from? And how come you can speak Dragonese?" "Ummm," she mumbled, obviously trying to think of an excuse. Then her face cleared. She lifted her wrist. "I can speak to you because of this bracelet." she said. "It helps me speak to any animal."
Well.
Of all the excuses, hers is quite bizarre, if I do say so myself. I frowned at her. "You're lying." I said. Then she frowned, although much more indignantly. "I am not!!" she said loudly. "I'm just-yeah I'm lying." she said grumpily. I grinned triumphantly. "But I can speak to animals with this bracelet," she said. "I just don't need it because I already know Dragonese. I learned it myself." "How can a bracelet help you speak to animals?" I asked. She shrugged. "It's science," she said, like I had any clue what that was. "Back where I come from, stuff like that is common."
"And where do you come from?" I asked. "The future." What? Ahem, I meant, WHAT?!
"Prove it." I said. She frowned again. "Just how am I supposed to do that?" she asked irritably. "Time travel to the future, and come back." I replied.
She paled, then shifted nervously at that. "Well, the thing is-" she started. "That's the only way I'll believe you." I said. She glared angrily at me. "Fine." she ground out. I watched as she started to concentrate. Trickles of golden light slipped down her arms. But something was wrong. She was concentrating way too hard. Before I could tell her to stop, she clapped her hands together. A dim flash of light came out of her hands, and she seemed to fade out for a second. Then she faded back in. She stumbled, then fell to the ground, unconscious.
Oops.
I started to panic. What do I do? Whenever a villager got hurt, Hiccup always came and did whatever you're supposed to do with them. I may not really know her, but she's still one of Hiccup's kind, and I didn't want her hurt. I shoved some sticks together, then started a fire. I laid down beside her to protect her from wild Dragons or other animals.
I was pretty sure it was my fault that she was like this. She had been trying to say something before, probably that she couldn't time travel right now. Looking back on it, while we had been talking, she had been unstable with exhaustion, struggling to keep her balance.
I shrugged to myself. Maybe I'll understand more tomorrow. I laid my head down, then fell asleep.

Natalia's P.O.V

Dang it!!
Dang it, Dang it!!
'This is your fault.' I wanted to accuse the black Dragon.
I knew something bad would happen if I tried to time travel so soon.
But, NO!!
I just had to prove myself, didn't I!!!
'I hope I don't get eaten by something,' I thought, just before falling completely unconscious.

Third chapter!!!
Hope all you Berkians enjoy it!!
I hope you don't think Toothless was being too friendly. I mean, he almost blasted her at first for trying to steal his fish.
I just think, if he comes across a young girl, and then she's unconscious because of him, he'll try to protect her.
Cuz', you know, we've all seen the movies.
We all know what a sweetheart Toothless is. 😄
I wonder what's going to happen hey?
Toothless is sleeping in the woods. I think Hiccup's gonna notice his absence.
Anyways, last thing before I go guys.
Natalia has a best friend back home in the future. If anyone wants to take that role, just tell me their name, and what they look like, and I'll quite happily integrate them into the story.
That's all for now!!!!
Peace out Dragonriders!!!
'May you sail safely, and may the wind stay strong under your Dragon's wings.'
