Chapter Twenty-Five: Of Unpleasant Surprises

The 104th cadets dropped by at around noon to ask how I was doing, peeking in carefully through the door first, before filing inside the room. They looked curiously around the area before asking me as they found no signs of Hanji, "We thought squad leader's here with you, [Y/N]."

"Oh, they said Commander Erwin called for them half an hour ago, maybe they're planning on a new mission or something similar," I said as I caught sight of a tray of meal in Connie's hands, to which the male set down carefully on the small table beside the bed.

Sasha smiled mischievously as she reached out for my hands and held it between hers as she asked, "So tell us, [Y/N], how are you feeling today?"

I arched an eyebrow at her, before chuckling softly as I answered, "Much better than yesterday. My head and ankle still hurt, but the pain is more manageable now."

Ymir, whose arm was around Christa's petite frame, smirked as she said, "Oh we're definitely sure that you're doing better thanks to a certain squad lea-"

She never got to finish her sentence since Christa nudged her midway, to which the taller woman responded with a wink, before adding to what Ymir said, "What we meant to say is that we're confident in squad leader Hanji's skills and that they won't let anything happen to you."

Connie and Sasha exchanged suspicious looks, smiling to one another before the former sat down beside me and teased, "We believe that you have something for us that's been long overdue, [Y/N]."

Eren, Mikasa, and Armin were just as confused as I was, and Jean sighed heavily as he sat down on the bed as well, checking my sprain in the process as he said, "With those two, it might be that you promised them food or something."

It was then that something clicked in my mind.

"Oh, right!" I exclaimed as my eyes widened in realization, "I made that promise back at the night of the King's party!"

"It certainly has been a long time since then, and a lot has happened too," Armin remarked with a small smile on his lips.

I nodded at this almost automatically, thinking back to when I joined the Survey Corps and to where I am right now. Things have truly drastically changed, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

I glanced at Sasha and Mikasa as I inquired, my head tilted slightly in curiosity, "By the way, how's the girl who was rescued in Dauper? Where is she right now?"

Mikasa and Eren shared a look as the former answered, "She's currently staying in the room you and Sasha share - if you don't mind, she's sleeping in your bed."

"We tried to get her to come with us but she didn't want to be away from Sasha," Eren continued with a wary smile, while Sasha beamed brightly as she added, "I think she thinks of me as her older sister. She has difficulty sleeping whenever I'm not in the room with her."

"I see, and what about Captain Levi? I haven't seen nor heard from him since I came back," I asked hesitantly, partly concerned and partly curious as to where the stoic captain was - I found it unusual that he didn't drop by, knowing from experience that even though he appeared unaffected most of the time, he actually cared about us.

Connie touched his chin lightly in deep thought, seemingly trying to recall something, before he said, "I think I saw Captain Levi a while ago with Commander Erwin and Squad Leader Hanji. Oh man, this can't be good. They may really be planning for another expedition."
