"[Y/N]? Are you still awake?" I heard Sasha ask in the middle of the night, her voice soft with a sense of urgency.
Looks like I'm not the only one who sleep evaded tonight. For whatever reason, I completely have no idea.
"I'm still awake, what is it?" I answered, slowly turning to face her direction as I rubbed my eyes lightly.
"Well, I'm nervous about tomorrow. What if there's not enough food for all of us?" Sasha asked, her eyes gleaming in the darkness.
I couldn't resist giggling softly before answering, "I bet there's lots of food, Sasha. I mean, he's the king, right? He's got to have lots of supplies hidden inside his keep."
"But I might accidentally eat all of them. Will I go to jail then?"
I got up slowly then sat down on the side of her bed as I said, "You should go to sleep now, Sasha, so you could have the energy you need to eat to your heart's content tomorrow night." Sasha grinned at me before closing her eyes and promptly fell asleep.
'Now then, how do I make myself fall asleep?' I thought as I stood by the window of our dorm room. It was a full moon type of night, and the sky was clear - I could see the stars shining bright above. And that's when a solitary movement from below caught my eye.
"Captain Levi?" I muttered quietly, afraid that I'd wake Sasha.
What on earth is he doing out this late at night?
Since I couldn't sleep anyway, I grabbed my coat and stepped out of the room. The corridor was dark - though a few torches lit up the way, it wasn't much help. I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't afraid, but I'm here now so I might as well go through with my idiotic plan.
"Where are you going?"
I opened my mouth to scream but a hand smoothly intercepted me. My eyes slowly adjusted to the dimly lit corridor and I felt my eyes widen in surprise when I saw them.
"Hanji? What are you doing here?" I asked after Hanji slowly lowered their hand.
It took them some time before they answered, "Patrolling."
I blinked my eyes in confusion.
"You...patrol the hallways?" I asked, genuinely confused by what Hanji said in response.
"Enough about me," Hanji said with a dismissive hand gesture before they continued, "What are you doing up at such an hour, [Y/N]?"
Of course, I wouldn't admit that I saw Captain Levi outside and that I was curious as to where he was going.
Silence.
More silence.
"I saw Captain Levi outside and wondered where he was going," I said with a sigh as I hung my head low in embarrassment.
A strange look passed by Hanji's face so fast I ended up thinking I imagined it.
"Go to sleep, [Y/N], you haven't fully recovered yet. Speaking of, how's your injury?" Hanji asked softly as they glanced at my arm.
"Oh! I'm fine. It no longer hurts that much too. I forgot to thank you a while ago for patching me up," I answered with a small smile on my lips.
"That's good to know. You really should be extra careful next time. Come on, I'll walk you back."
"That's not necessary! I'm sure you're also tired and-"
"Please. Let me at least walk you back, [Y/N]," Hanji said with a serious look on their face, and I wasn't able to say anything in disagreement.
