Ella decided not to activate her ability, and fight him with her fists. She didn't know where the hell Zeke was, but she hoped he was nowhere near. He was about to retaliate, until he suddenly stopped in midair. His face was contorted with surprise.
"Not a fight, I hope?" someone asked. Ella looked up. Ms. Rosalind was standing there, her eyes glowing.
"Ms. Rosalind! What are you doing here?" Ella exclaimed.
"Oh, I was merely on my way to get some coffee from the staffroom," Ms. Rosalind replied. "Although Mr. Keene lectures us teachers about how apples are good and coffee is bad."
"Oh, okay."
"So, shouldn't you kids be getting lunch right now? They have chocolate cake today! I'm sure you kids wouldn't want to miss it."
Ella developed a sudden interest to her sneakers. "Um, about that... the chocolate cake... is probably not available."
"But you would still have to get lunch, yes? You'll need the energy for your classes."
Ella couldn't argue with that. So she and her friends ran down the hallway. Ella hoped John wouldn't attack them.
They reached the cafeteria. The other kids all turned their heads to look at them. Whispers swept through the room.
"Why are they running?"
"What's going on?"
"Did they steal the chocolate cake?"
A chorus of groans rose up at that remark.
Ella ignored them, snatched up a tray, and began filling up her plate. She thought it was a pity that the chocolate cake was wasted on John. She grabbed a fork, but she accidentally almost hit Isen with it. "Sorry."
Ella didn't know why, but Isen turned chalk white, and backed away from the fork. He seemed to be sweating. Blyke started laughing hysterically.
"Dude, it's been a couple years, and you're still afraid of forks?"
"WHAT!? He's scared of forks!?" Ella exclaimed. "How're you supposed to eat, then?"
Isen said, "I-I eat w-with spoons."
"Why are you scared forks, anyways?" Ella asked as they headed for the cafeteria table.
"Shuddup!" Isen said, his cheeks turning red.
"Why, though?" Ella asked.
Isen bit his lip. "Well, you see, in our first year, me and Blyke-"
"Blyke and I," Remi corrected.
Isen made a face. "Fine. Blyke and I went to get our lunch, right? And then, we started arguing, so Arlo comes up and tells us to break it up."
Arlo, Ella thought. There goes that Arlo guy again.
"We asked him what was he going to do, and he told us he was the King, and we didn't listen. So I called him Little Man and didn't listen. Then, he grabs this fork from some random girl, and tosses it at us."
"And?" Ella asked.
"And, he dragged us to the West Courtyard and beat us up."
"So?"
"So, all in all, this is why I'm scared of forks. The end." Isen spread out his arms.
Ella almost broke into a fit of laughs again. "Seriously? This is why you're scared of forks? Why isn't Blyke afraid of forks, then?"
"Shuddup!" Isen retorted.
"Hey man, she's got a point," Blyke said.
"Well, just because you're a smart-ass, it doesn't mean everyone is like you!" Isen said.
"Hey! Don't call me that!"
They bickered for the rest of the lunch period. Ella wondered how Remi ever got any peace and quiet.

Ella headed for her next class. Her phone beeped, and Ella saw that it was a message from Sera.
<Hey, do you have time to talk today?>
Ella texted back,
<yeah, after school around 2 >
<K, meet me by the West Courtyard. I wanna go over some stuff with you>
<okay>
Ella put her phone back into her pocket. She strode down the hallways, and eventually reached her class. She pushed the door open, sat down at her desk, and pulled out her notes.
***
Ella walked out, clutching her homework from her previous class. Apparently, the teacher hadn't assigned to much homework; in other words, good news for Ella. She checked her watch. 1:52. She had told Sera to meet her at 2 pm. I'm going to drop off my homework to my dorm first, Ella thought.
She reached the girl's dormitories, smacked her homework down on her bed, and headed out. She checked her watch again. 1:58.
Ella arrived at the courtyard, where Sera was already there, her arms crossed, which made Ella think Uh oh.
"Hello," Sera said, waving.
"Hi."
"How's your day going?"
"Oh, it was fine," Ella said.
Sera nodded. "Remember our talk from last time?"
Ella bit her lip. She had really made a fool of herself at that time. "Yeah."
"So, I wanted to talk to you about a few things."
"Oh! Um, okay," Ella replied.
Sera raised her eyebrow. "First question. How did you assume John was a cripple?"
A/N: I figured you could use some crack-ups after a whole serious bundle of stuff. I hope y'all enjoyed this chapter. By the way, what could you call a fear of forks? Forkphobia? xDD
See you next chapter!
Oh, and, um, I couldn't resist making this:
