"Oh." Ella rubbed her eyes. "It's just you."

Ethma raised her eyebrows. "Who did you think it was, King George III?"

Ella shrugged. "Not close at all." But she cracked up at the thought of King George in some crappy teenage girl's dorm.

"Oh, and you missed your first period because you were out."

Ella's eyes widened. "Oh no, I missed another class!?"

"Relax," she told Ella. "Lots of people skip class every day."

"Just because other people do it doesn't mean I have to do it!!"

"Ugh, you're hopeless." Ella's best friend rolled her eyes.

Ella threw off her covers. "I gotta go now! Don't want to miss my second period!!" and tore out of the room, her hair flying behind her.

"Ella, would you please come up and answer this question?" the history teacher asked. Ella had been paying attention and taking a lot of notes to make up for not taking her first class.

"1841."

"Correct. Challenge: What month?"

Ella scratched her chin. March or April? Guess I'll go with April.

"April."

"Right again. Now, did you know that..." the teacher rumbled on and on, and eventually class was over.

Ella saw her best friend, Ethma, sitting at a table at lunch. Her best friend had a grin on her face. Ella plopped her lunch(which was chicken nuggets) down on the same table.

"Hey, what's with that smile?" Ella asked. Her best friend continued grinning.

"It's this." Ethma showed Ella the front page of the school paper. Ella squinted at it. "So?"

Ethma looked frustrated. "Read the author aloud!"

"By Ethma," Ella read aloud. "Oh, so you made the front page?"

"Not only that. Read the article."

Ella read it aloud, and promptly found that the article was about her. It talked about how she had escaped John without getting knocked unconscious or getting her ass sent to the hospital.

I just hope John doesn't read the school paper, Ella thought. He's probably extra mad at me now. Ella voiced out her thoughts to her best friend. She rolled her eyes.

"It's going to make you really popular, though. You'll be everyone's idol."

"But I don't want attention!"

And it was just as well. From that day on, everyone started treating Ella like she was the Queen, although she was not. People kept on urging her to challenge Remi for a rank fight. Ella told them she didn't want to have some stupid leadership position. Ella told Remi, and Remi laughed at her.

"What!?" Ella asked angrily.

"It's just... you remind me of Isen when Arlo made him the press leader," Remi told Ella. "Isen used the exact same words, 'Stupid leadership position'."

"Hey, I have a good idea!" Blyke said triumphantly. You might as well have seen a light bulb pop up above his red hair. "Maybe you guys should make it a quote, ' "I don't want to be in a stupid leadership position." - Isen and Ella'. "

"Shut up!" Isen and Ella said in unison.

Yeah, Ella didn't need Blyke angering Isen more. Even before Blyke's joke, Isen's scowl looked almost like John's. Remi told her afterwards that Isen had wanted his article(which was gossiping about two secretive mid-tiers in love) to make the front page.

It had sure seemed that no one wanted to piss off Ella now. People had even stopped bullying Sera when they learned that she was Ella's friend. They had started to rebel against John and Zeke. But the hierarchy was still there. Mid-tiers still bullied low-tiers(as long as the low-tier wasn't a friend of Ella's).

It was a day before the Substantial Turf War. Ella was putting on her jogging clothes when her phone beeped. It was a message from her old friend at Vallord.

<hey ella, long time no talk :p>

Ella texted back,

<sry. was busy>

<i have good news>

<wat?>

<we beat agwin!!! they were such a pushover>

<??>

<agwin high school>

<what!?>

<yea asdkfjk;lfsdj;lak>

<?>

<oh damn it, gtg, the queen is spamming my keyboardkjfal;;jlk>

<oh ok bye>

Ella plopped back on her bed. They beat Agwin!????? Well, that's some news. She put on her clothes, and jogged over to Remi's dorm.

***

Blyke and Isen were there already. They seemed to be training their abilities. Ella thought, Yeah, you'd better because Vallord already beat Agwin.

"Oh hi Ella!" Remi waved. Her eyes were glowing, her body crackling with electricity. Ella waved back, careful not to get close to her as she didn't want to get electrocuted.

"Guys, can you stop for a second? I have something important to tell you." Ella braced herself for the shock it would cause them.

The trio stopped what they were doing, deactivated their abilities, and leaned in like they were little children ready for a bedtime story.

"First thing is, don't underestimate my school."

"Yeah?"

"Second thing: Look out."

Isen rolled his eyes. "We know-"

"Shhh," Remi put a finger to his lips. "I'll bet she has something more important to tell than that."

"Third thing is... my school beat Agwin."
