John woke with a start. He rubbed his fluffy black hair, remembering the weird dream. That little girl had looked so like... like that girl who was bold enough to glare at me. What was her name again? Ella. She reminded John of himself when he was still wearing hair gel, playing cripple, thinking that Wellston was different from New Bostin. Hmph. I suppose I was a fool to do that, he thought.

But at that moment, a whispering voice spoke: Sure, they might all be wrong. But what about the girl you betrayed? What about her?

John responded to himself: No, she betrayed me! She sided with them!

No. You betrayed her by lying to her face, putting on a smiley face while your true side were beating up the top students brutally.

I was destroying the unfairness of the school!

Couldn't you have done it another way?

John pondered that last thought.

***

Ella slumped into her dorm bed, exhausted by her first day. What had happened that day was mighty, mighty far from her imagination from yesterday. Getting into two fights with this strong kid called John who seemed to be from her past but she apparently couldn't remember. She also made friends called Blyke, Isen and Remi. She chided herself to stop thinking about those stuff and just go to sleep for a fresh second day.

She tucked herself under the covers, and hugged her favorite turquoise pillow, the same color as her eyes. She fell asleep almost as soon as her head hit the bed. But before she did, she made a mental note to herself, Always try to be more imaginative so that you can predict the future so that you can be prepared.

***

Ella peeked out from behind a tree. Two boys, one with black hair and golden eyes; one with blonde hair and green eyes were playing tag. She longed for friends, and they looked like they were having so much fun. She went out from her hiding spot.

"Hi," Ella said, fiddling with her thumbs. "Can I join you guys?"

"Sure!" the boys said in unison.

"I'm John," the black-haired boy said.

"I'm Adrion," the blonde said. "Also, John's IT!"

The scene changed.

Ella was pleading her parents to stop it.

"Please, I don't want to move there. I'd have to leave my friends! Besides, I didn't even tell them yet!"

"Now, now, Ella, we have to go, your father's business got a sudden call," Ella's mother said.

"B-but I don't want to!" six year old Ella stammered. "I don't want to leave my friends!"

"Shhhh, Ella," her mother told her. "You'll make new friends."

They got into their car, and the car vroomed out into the countryside.

***

Ella woke up suddenly. She sat up. "Ugh," she groaned, blinking. What was that freak dream? Then with a sudden jolt, she'd realized that the girl was her, the black-haired boy was John, and... Adrion? She didn't remember him. So many new things at Vallord had clogged up her mind. So he had been a pretty close friend. But what she didn't understand was that from her memories of him, he didn't have an ability at all. You should've already developed an ability by 3. Otherwise, if you didn't have an ability by 3 you're probably a cripple. So he was probably a cripple. But from where did he get that god-tier ability? And who was Seraphina?

But there was one thing she was sure about. She was sure the 'dream' was a real memory.

These thoughts circled Ella's mind as she got out of bed, and put on her uniform. This time, though, she left out her vest purposefully, grateful that she didn't have to wear it.

***

She and Ethma went down the hallway in silence. Finally Ella broke the ice.

"Who is Seraphina?" It was a bit random, but Ella was longing to know.

Ethma looked like Ella had hit a hard spot. "W-we're not supposed to talk about it."

Ella said, "Fine."

They walked in silence until they reached their classes.

"See you."

"Bye."

And they went into their homeroom class.

Ella payed attention this time, and took notes. She felt like she would ace that quiz next week. At the 10 minutes free time, she looked at her copy of her schedule. She had a new class, apparently. Sadly, it wasn't with Ethma.

***

Ella went down the hallways, to where she was assuming the classroom was. Just then, she bumped into a girl.

"Sorry!" Ella apologized immediately.

"It's alright," the girl said. She looked like a fourth year, the same age as Ella.

The girl had magenta-colored short hair with streaks of blonde dye. She wore hair extensions, and had sky-blue eyes. Her uniform's jacket was hanging down on one side. She didn't seem bothered about it.

"I'm really sorry, I'm new, so... I'm not exactly a mapmaker for this place."

"It's okay. But you seem nice, though, about the fact that you apologized."

"Why do I seem nice? Aren't all people supposed to say sorry when you bump into someone else? I mean, it's good manners, right?"

The magenta-haired girl sighed, and said, "No, you don't get it at all. It's not how it works here. You just get yelled at or you get beat up if you're a low tier and you bump into someone. Probably both."

Ella was baffled. "But it's good manners to do so, and why do you get beat up all the time?"

The magenta-haired girl now was the one to be baffled. She pointed at herself. "What? You don't know about me?"

"No," Ella admitted.

The magenta-haired girl sighed. "Long story short, I was an 8.0 god tier before. Then, I lost my ability, and then I became a cripple."

"What the f- How could that happen?" asked Ella, surprised.

The magenta-haired girl shook her head. "I don't really want to talk about it. By the way, I don't think I ever caught your name."

"Oh, I'm Ella," Ella said. "What about you?"

"Seraphina, but you can call me Sera."

When she said that, Ella couldn't believe her luck. She wanted to ask her a million questions. But it would seem kind of... weird. So she decided to ask one question wandering on her mind. She figured that if she was able to answer that question, only then would she pepper her with her one million questions.

"Hey, so... do you know John?"
