I gently shove my mother to one side as she tries to mend my cuts.
"Sam. Stay still."
"I have to see where is Emms. I need to--"
"Sam!" I look over at her fearful eyes. She tries hard to stay firm, but a hint of a tremble runs through her body. "I need to see that you're safe."
I let my expression soften as I put a hand on her arm. "I am. But I have to see if I can help in anything with Emms. She isn't safe just yet."
Christina let's her fear fade away at my words and she lets go of the cotton for my wounds. I give her a small nod and walk to where Nikki, Kat, and Alexander are looking over at Emms. Dan and Blake are just on the side with panic in their eyes, but my brother tries hard to comfort Blake as she fights back tears.
"Can't we just take her to a hospital or something?!"
"It's too dangerous for that now," Dan says to her with a soft voice. "If we take her there, we won't know if she'll ever come out. They're targeting us until the President does something about it."
"And what if he doesn't?" Mia says frantically this time. She comes up to where I'm at as her eyes search for answers in mine. "What will happen if this keeps up? Do we have to hide? What about school?"
"Well you better hope that damn President does something about it," Nikki says without looking up from Emms's bloody side. Kat seems to quietly, and with much concentration, pass the materials and clean the area as she works. "Or else we're going to have another world war."
"It's about time," Dom says by Jordyn's side. He looks down at Jordyn as he sits at a small stool. His green eyes overlooking at Emms from what he can see. That hint of love and fear all mixing up in his expression. Dom gives him a reassuring pat on his shoulder and for once, he doesn't glare at him. He only gives him a nod and turns back to Emms.
"You need to get that bullet out, Nikki," Kat says quietly. "It's going to infect the blood and her blood pressure will drop."
"I'm getting there. I'm...." Nikki seems to move something from her side and blood quirts out on her side. She clicks her tongue and says, "If only we had...." Her eyes grow wide and looks at Mia. "Mia. Tell us where the bullet is."
"I-I don't know. I'm not very good with blood..."
Her light brown skin turns pale as she weakly steps up the table. I go with her and put a firm hand on her shoulder. She gives me a fearful look and I give her a reassuring nod. With this, she swallows and lets her hand linger on the bloody area. I look over at Emms. It reminds me of the first time she was here. I saw her enter and Alexander put her on the table. Her heartbeat was strong back then but now....it's turning weaker by the second despite of the oxygen mask.
Mia's breath quivers and I whisper to her, "Close your eyes and feel it." She does as I say and I can see how she stops her fearful pants.
Her hand stops by a side of the bloody area and whispers, "There."
"Okay! Kat, If I'm not wrong, it should be somewhere at the--"
The sound of Gabriel's voice makes us all see him enter with Adeline. Everyone has their own angry and surprised reactions to their arrival, but the first thing my eyes see are Adeline. The way her icy blue eyes carry worry and the way they immediately land on me....
"What the hell are you doing here?!" Jordyn reacts first and takes Gabriel's collar. I quickly run up to him and push him to the side.
This makes Gabriel let out a breath of relief and says, "Thank you."
