I watch her sleep peacefully. A smile starts at my lips at the blanket I've brought for her. I nearly got kicked out of the store for being Gifted, but at least I've kept her warm. It's either the cold air here or the many thoughts in her head that keep her from getting some decent rest.
Though I have to say...I prefer she stays asleep. She doesn't want to know what's going on outside of the Lab.
My sister told me all about Adeline and her wonderful decision of telling her father everything.
Was I angry two days ago? I couldn't sleep on that night. I think none of us could when we had this in our minds. Each one of us carrying our own type of concern whether for our loved ones or for our own blood.
Blood will be shed alright. Soon enough, we'll be able to take a hold of every single one of those bloody rich heads that have nothing to do with making anything better. They are all liars just like Gabriel and Adeline. I should've known they'd pull this one off...
My hands slowly release the fist I've done with these angry thoughts. I watch Emms slowly move a little until her eyes lightly open. I quickly stand to turn the light off to a medium strength and gently take her hand.
"Hey, beautiful. How are you feeling?"
She does a small moan as she lets her legs stretch a little. But a small wince crosses her face at the memory of the stitches on her side. She let's out a small breath and whispers, "Do you think you could pass me something to drink?"
I quickly get up and look for a water bottle. I look back at her once I decide to go into the underground living room, and give her tired eyes a smile. She is still too weak to even sit up. She lost a lot of blood on that day and it's my fault.
I should've taken the bullet.
I come back and help her sit up a little to drink some of the water I brought her. She winces as she lays back on the more comfortable bed that Doctor Alex brought for her and lets out a relieved sigh. "Thank you."
I give her a nod but she's already closed her eyes. I watch her chest gently move up and down, and her head move to one side like she's going to fall asleep again. So I keep my sob in. I always do. I've done it ever since my father died. It's funny to think that I'm the strongest man on earth, but my heart is the weakest one yet.
I shove away my tears as I see Emms slowly open her eyes again. "Where's everyone?"
"They're either preparing for the mission or doing school work."
"So the usual."
I do a quiet chuckle and kiss her hand. "How are you feeling, my love? Do you need anything else? Another pillow? More water? Less light?"
"I need something to eat," she says with a weak and playful smile.
I nod and stand to start towards the exit. "I'll get it for you."
"No. Wait." She takes my hand and stops me. I observe her pale face show a hint of sadness as she says, "Stay. That can wait."
"But...you need to get better. You need everything that'll--"
"I have you. I don't need anything else."
My racing heart stops only to make the guilt overwhelm me. I look down and clear my throat as I feel tears run down my cheeks. I don't have to look up to know that she has her brows furrowed at me.
"Jordyn? Is everyone okay?"
I look up to see worry in her eyes and I quickly sit back on her side. "No. Everyone's okay. It's just...you're not okay..."
