I let the water from the shower drop on my head. The water evaporates with the steam coming out of my body. It blinds me and sometimes blocks my view of what truly matters in life.

The only moment, which are few, that the steam faded away was when I saw Nikki for the first time.

It was at that party where I fell in love with her.

I tried something with Blake but with Nikki, it's different. Why is it so hard to believe that it's true? All my life I've been told and seen the life of a Gifted. Son of a scientist. Brother of an adopted Fallen boy. Kat doesn't know that part of the story in Sam's life. I wonder if he pushes that part aside just the way I try hard to push this feeling aside.

The feeling that deep down, everything I have is a lie. Could it be?

Whatever.

I put on some clothes and walk downstairs. No one's in the living room anymore. I guess they're in the lab. So I grab a quick snack and see myself walking through the dim hallway. The closer I get, I can hear familiar voices. I wonder where's Dad. He doesn't seem to be in the group.

I step in and they don't even notice me enter as they're deep in conversation with a new girl next to Adeline. I've gotta say that by just one glimpse of her gentle face, I can tell she's the opposite of Adeline. They can't be family.

I take a seat next to Sam and listen to what's left of the argument. Emms, as usual, putting in the wood for the fire.

"I'm still not convinced that's a very good plan if you ask me," Emms says with her arms crossed. She can easily trick you with that pretty, gentle face of hers, but I have never met a girl as feisty as she tends to be. I don't get what Jordyn sees in her.

"That's why nobody asked you," Adeline says with that smug she carries a lot.

I chuckle quietly at the irony in her voice. I like it when she gives Emms that sweet voice whenever she uses words to send daggers at Emms. She even widens those icy blue eyes to show innocence behind her sarcasm. It's not always like this, but it's entertaining when these two get on edge.

Emms narrows her eyes at her and Nikki rolls her eyes. If there's something I know, no one hates Adeline as much as Nikki hates her. She crosses her arms on her chest and shows that hate in her voice as she says, "Look. We're not here to pick up a fight, Adeline. We just want to be sure that we can get out of the building in one piece; speaking from someone who has to enter."

"Aww. Are you scared? Because if you want, I can talk with another friend who's willing to complete the mission with confidence."

"You little bit--" Just as Nikki is about to stand up, Sam slams his hand on the table and everyone stays silent.

Fire burns in his yellow eyes as he stares down at each one of us until he lands on me. "What are you laughing about?" His voice is quiet and stern as he says this.

I hadn't even noticed that I was quietly laughing. I take a breath and look around the table. "Aw man," I say with a smile. "This is really...really entertaining, guys. I seriously just left for thirty minutes and you're all fighting already."

"If you're so smart, then why don't you suggest another plan for this weekend?" I smirk as I watch Emms give me her stern look. She's holding herself back from strangling everyone in this room. Especially me. This makes me smile even wider; causing her to roll her eyes at me.

"I wasn't even here for the plan," I say taking out a hand. "So if anyone would please let me know what's going on, then I could join in the cat fight."

Kat takes a breath of annoyance towards me. She's the type to hold back or hide her feelings for someone. I seem to be more gentle with her though. Kat and Blake are both very neutral people so I don't bully them so much.
