I drive to school after dropping off information to Gen. Adeline wanted to walk to school today. I found that quite surprising, but I let her be. I suppose something happened that she needs some time alone.
My eyes catch a glimpse of a girl with wavy hair and light brown highlights. I smile when I see her dark blue eyes look up at the sky. I'm so dazed into her that I find myself moving a lane closer to her without looking behind me for cars passing by. The loud honk of a car nearly crashing into me, brings Kat and I to jump. She turns to where I am as I say my apologizes and look over to see her laughing at me.
With a warm smile, I stop by the curb she's at and she comes over to the window. My car detects when someone comes close to any window and I don't have to push a button to bring it down. I see the clear window disappear in a pixelly wave as she leans on the door.
"I can tell that you don't drive very often. I'm actually pretty surprised that you did not just die back there."
I shrug as I play along with her and say, "I thought I should try something new. I hear you're a lady of new beginnings?"
"Where did you hear those lies?"
We share a chuckle at her joke and I smile at her. "So what are you doing outside so early?" I raise up my watch to see the time and say, "I believe there's about an hour left for school to start..."
Kat shrugs as she looks towards the sidewalk. "I was going to go to the local library to check out some books, but then I got lost and I also lost interest in reading. So then I decided to just walk around until I recognize a street and get my way to school. And yes, I was planning on ditching school if the hour passed."
She laughs at the way my eyes grow wide at her story. "Wow. That sounds quite the adventure, Miss Kat. How about I take you to the library instead of roaming around in the streets like a homeless."
"What?! Discrimination from the future president?" I laugh at her remark as she says, "I don't know. I'm afraid that I might get stabbed in the stomach if someone sees me with you."
Her blue eyes shine with caution at this joke, but she relaxes when she sees me smile. "Come on. Just get in and we could even get to school on time. Who knows? Maybe we shall escape the hooded men that stabbed me."
She rolls her eyes at my smirk and sighs. "Fine. But if I die, I will haunt you for the rest of your life. And you have to sing in my funeral."
My heart dances at the sound of Kat entering my car. "I'll make sure to sing Spice Girls for you. It suits you well with your personality."
"I was hoping It's A Small World After All, but I guess that one is okay." We share one last laugh and she silently looks out the window as I carefully drive towards the library.
I give her a few instructions on how to get there so the conversation doesn't stop too early. She quietly listens with her shining blue eyes. The dull sounds of the traffic outside fades away with the sound of her laughter. The sound of her playful voice as she tells the window to disappear. She brings out her hand and moves it along with the wind like waves. Her hair all over her face; showing only sweet glimpses of her wide smile whenever she turns to look at me.
I stop in front of the library and we silently admire the large building. She lets out a sigh, but then her eyes grow wide and chuckles. "Oh wow. I've never felt my stomach growl so much like it did right now."
"You haven't eaten yet?"
"Nah. I just woke up and decided to take a walk to the library. Honestly, I wasn't even in the mood to read. I don't know why." I start the car and drive away from the library with a smile. She gives me a surprised look and says, "What are you doing?"
