"CAN YOU FEEL THE SILENCE? CAN YOU FEEL THE HIGH?"

After I explained everything that I had seen in the malum malus Ambrose told me to just stay careful the next few days. And I felt even more nervous but after Sabrina told me what Father Blackwood told her during their meeting I was slightly at ease. Free will was at the base of this Church.

I sure hoped so.

I woke up the next morning and quickly got dressed in a green sweater and jean skirt. I scurried into the kitchen to see everyone in the dining room. I see Hilda at the stove cooking up some eggs. She smiled at me.

"There she is. How are you feeling?" She said.

"I'm certainly feeling better. The tonic you made helped, thanks Auntie Hilda." I said. Hilda gave me a quick grin before resuming her cooking. I walked over to the dining room table and sat down beside Ambrose. Sabrina looks at me with a grin. "You're looking pretty today." She comments.

"Thank you." I said with a smile. Zelda took a hit from her cigarette with a bright grin. "It's the day before her baptism, most girls are glowing before they sign their name in the Book of the Beast." She said, breathing out smoke. I looked over at Ambrose to see Kai laying on his shoulder, I petted the lizard before straightening myself in my seat.

"So, Mary Rose, me and your Aunt Hilda were talking about when you are getting a boyfriend?" Zelda said. My eyes widened and I heard Sabrina slightly chuckling. "A... boyfriend?" I said slightly lost on what their motive was. What were they going on about?

"Yes, my love, we haven't heard any juicy details about any cute boys or girls." Hilda said with a mischievous grin. I cleared my throat before standing to my feet and beginning to enter the kitchen.

"First off, I don't want a boyfriend. Second of all, I don't need a boyfriend." I said putting my finger up sternly. I walked over to Aunt Hilda who held out a plate of bacon and eggs. I grabbed the plate and made my way back to my seat. I heard Ambrose chuckle.

"Yes you do, desperately." He said. I poked his shoulder before sitting down. "You are spending an incredible amount of time with me and you need to be going out with friends. Being social." Ambrose said. I rolled my eyes before scoffing.

"I am social, right Sabrina?" I said, looking over at her. She hums before looking up at me. She gave me an awkward expression before looking back down at her half eaten piece of bacon on her plate. I smacked my lips before taking a sip of orange juice. Zelda breathes out.

"Oh, I can't wait for you to start your studies at the Academy of Unseen Arts. You'll gain so many new friends, boyfriends, girlfriends." She said. I looked at her with widened eyes. "I will also gain knowledge while I'm there as well. Going to school isn't just about what cute guy you'll see there, it's about what you learn as well, how you'll use it in the future." I spoke clearly. The room went quiet so I quickly shoved a stick of bacon into my mouth and stood to my feet.

"Alrighty, I'm heading out. See you guys later." I spoke mid-chew. I grabbed my satchel that hung on my chair and threw it over my shoulder. I began walking out of the door, hearing goodbye's from my Aunts. Once I got outside I began walking onto the pebble road.

"Mary Rose!" I heard Ambrose yell after me which made me turn around in confusion. He had something in his hand. He had a slight smirk on his face.

"I think you're forgetting something." He spoke before standing in front of me and opening up his hand to reveal Kai. My eyes widened and I quickly grabbed the lizard and placed him on my shoulder. "Oh my—thank you, Ambrose." I said. He gives me a quick nod before turning around and walking back into the house.
