The following morning, we all stood in lines, listening to Shadis shouting at everyone as an introduction after the dropout choice of our training. Quite a lot of people had chosen to drop out.

"Row four! About face!" My row turned and I found myself facing a dark brown haired boy with determined emerald eyes. They were shining, but intense, he had a very strong reason for being here.

"What do we have over here?!" Shadis yelled and I straightened up, not used to this volume or intensity.

"Jean Kirschtien, sir! From the Trost district"" The boy saluted and I leant forwards a little, peering down the row at him. He was stood beside a really freckly boy.

"And why are you here, Cadet?!" Jean straightened, smiling nervously, but adamant on his answer.

"To join the Military Police, sir. The best of the best." I pulled a face and stood up straight, looking forwards at the emerald eyes teenager in front of me. I met his eyes, clearly he had been looking at me, purely in curiosity. I sent him a smile, earning a small confused one back. Even he seemed wary on Jean's choice in regiment.

"That's nice. You want to live in the interior, do you?"

"Yes!" The boy in front of me, and I, shared a look, not agreeing with his choice. I pursed my lips when I saw Jean get headbutted and fall to his knees out of the corner of my eye.

"You!" Shadis approached us. "What's your name?" He was stood in front of me. My back straightened and I saluted with my right arm, my had balled into a fist above my heart.

"(Y/n) Ackerman, Sir!" The boy in front of me turned his head, even more confused, glancing to his right at a dark haired girl.

"Ackerman...Where are you from?!"

"The Underground, Sir! Although I was living in Shiganshina!" Cadets shared looks, but I focussed my attention on the higher up in front of me.

"Why did you join the Training Corps?!" His voice was loud and booming around the area. I took a deep breath.

"To join the Scouts and serve humanity like my cousin!"

"Your cousin...?"

"Levi Ackerman, Sir!" Shadis nodded, turning to face the boy beside me, but shooting me a look out of the corner of his eye.

"I have high expectations for you, Cadet." I nodded wearily, dropping my arm to link with the other behind my back as the black haired girl from before sent me a strange look. I stared at her as she mouthed to me.

Ackerman? I nodded. Same, my father. I squinted to try and read her lips under the bright sun. I sent her a smile, mouthing something back.

My father too.

She offered me a small smile, realising she still had some family left. I shifted my attention back to the boy to my right of me. Connie Springer, if I remember correctly.

"Hey there, what do you think you're doing?" I turned my head to see a girl eating a potato. Connie and I shared a look.

"(Y/n)." I quietly introduced myself once Shadis had wandered over to potato girl.

"Connie." The two of us shook hands, pulling apart before the commander could notice us.

"Have those two ever not fought or glared at each other during dinner?" I asked, leaning on my hand as I watched Jean and Eren argue once again. Sasha and Connie shared a look with a shrug, Marco trying to get Jean to stop fighting with Eren.
