Looking around the room, I hadn't seen him yet. I wore a cute summer outfit, a simple white sundress. I smiled when this cute blond eighteen year old walked into the coffee shop. His eyes scanned the room before finally landing on me. My smile softened and I giggled when he blushed, smiling nervously and coming over to me.
"Sorry I'm late...my roommates wouldn't let me leave." I laughed, standing up and slinging my bag over my shoulder. He wore a white button up and a pair of jeans with military combat boots tucked under his jeans.
"You got a haircut." I smiled, lightly taking his hand in mine as I lead him out of the shop and down the street a little until he caught up, walking beside me, his hand still in mine.
"Is it bad?" I turned to him as we walked, looking over it a little, even choosing to mess it up slightly.
"Not at all, I think it's cute." Armin smiled, leading me down the street to a restaurant.
"Are you in the military by any chance?" I asked, poking my food around my plate with my fork as I rest my head on my other hand, smiling cutely and staring at Armin."U-uh, y-yeah, how'd you know?" I shrugged.
"Your boots, they're military. I've got a crazy cousin with the same pair." I took a bite of my food. "Are your roommates military too?" Armin nodded and I smiled. "Is it hard?" He tilted his head, confused. "The training." I explained, crossing my one leg over the other under the table.
"It was at first, hard to get used to, but most of us made friends who encouraged us to continue, helping train out of hours too." I smiled.
"I bet you've made some great friends, then." He nodded, my smile remained. "Are you closest with your roommates?" Armin nodded again.
"Y-yeah, since we were kids, we enrolled together." I glanced behind Armin, feeling a deadly stare piercing me. A tiny giggle escaped me.
"I think that's very sweet. I thought about the military when I was younger, grew out of it when I reached high school though."
"Why?" My date straightened in his seat, feeling the stares on the back of his head.
"A lot of people convinced me that I wasn't suited for it, so I stuck to books and libraries."
"What do you do now?"
"I'm in the process of applying for a craft apprenticeship." Armin's eyes lit up.
"You like to make things?" I nodded with a small laugh.
"Probably not the same as you, but yeah. Making things is like putting puzzles together, just trying to find the right things to go in the right places to make the perfect thing." The boy in front of me nodded in agreement.
As the date came to an end, I bid goodbye to Armin in front of the restaurant. I waited for a moment before hearing him whine something as he rounded the corner.
"Why were you two following me?!"
"To see if she's good enough!"
"This is the first date I have had since...ever...please stop judging her to see if she's suitable!"
"Armin! C'mon man, we're just looking out for you!"
"I know..."
I stayed in contact with Armin after our date, the both of us really hitting it off, having continued to go on more dates, and eventually putting a label on it all I smiled brightly as I wandered through the hallways, laughing with my crazy cousin since she offered to show me around the base today. I had just come from an interview, so I was dressed formally. Black pencil skirt, white blouse, black heels, fitted black blazer.
I smiled politely as we rounded a corner, passing some of her colleagues.
She took me to an on-base classroom, where the newer recruits would be learning about the theory side of things and how to handle things properly, along with strategy and leadership. However, when she pushed open the door, I was greeted by people my age, and a little older, at an indoor shooting range, having to partially assemble, load their guns, and shoot their targets. They needed to get under a set time to pass and get a license.
