Chapter Forty: The Betrayal

We were all laughing along in the gym just enjoying ourselves. It felted like a team, we felt like a team and a family all at once. I loved it, we all felt connected.

Expect we were missing one person, Gwen.

She's late from pretty much the whole session and I nor anyone got a message from her. I know a few suspected that she was just not coming but Gwen would have texted Aryana if she wasn't coming.

Maybe she's asleep. I mean, this training was later than usual. It was already dark when it started and now it was around 10pm. It was near the end of training but we all just wanted to hang with one another.

And she hasn't answered my messages so I wonder where she is.

I heard a slam of two doors and everyone whipped their head towards the sound. I then Gwen pretty much bursted through the door breathing heavily.

I looked over at her worried.

It seemed like her face was red from running and she was breathing heavily. It seemed like she either ran away from something or rushed to us because of something.

"Are you okay, Gwen?" Aryana asked in concern as her and I walked over towards her.

"Someone's a traitor here." Gwen said, and jogged over towards our group.

The air was now tense and filled with confusion and doubt. I obviously believed Gwen but I didn't get what she meant... well, I understood. Someone's a traitor here but traitor for what?

What was this traitor doing?

"What do you mean?" Bonnie asked in confusion.

"Someone here is with The Tigers. They have a plan to betray us and make us lose at nationals." Gwen said trying to clear up the confusion.

Someone here is a traitor but who? Who could possibly do this to us?

"That can't be real..." Nora mumbled as she looked down at the floor.

"It can't be... right?" Bonnie asked looking around at all of us.

It was quiet, and with quietness came overthinking. I stared at the floor trying to think of something as my brain tried to think of who this person could be.

Was this just a prank that The Tigers were pulling off to distract us? I don't know but I believe Gwen with all my heart.

Then, I remembered something important. The conversation I had with Anna the day of the finals.

'Be careful who you trust, Quinn. Someone you know is a snake.'

"Gwen's right." I stated as I moved over towards Gwen and Diana followed me.

"What?" Alexis asked in utter confusion.

"Gwen's right!" I said louder, and then continued. "When we did finals I had a talk with Anna. And when I was leaving she told me to be careful who I trust because someone's a snake."

"That must be what she meant," I added quietly as I replayed the scene over and over again.

"So..." Aryana said slowly and fidgeting slightly. "Who could this traitor be?"

"I don't know. All I know is that I overheard The Tigers saying how there's a traitor among us... but I didn't get any information on who it could be," Gwen explained as she was glancing around the room at the people.

"Didn't you talk to Anna on the finals, Paris?" Alexis started, and everyone looked at Paris who looked at them in confusion.

"Yeah, but nothing like that." Paris said, and that was the beginning of a shit storm.
