Chapter Twenty

Okay... I thought Farren said millions of people. But what I see here are people like the sand on the shore. I heard a voice in me; "what do you think you're doing? do you think you can make it? you're nothing...just run back in like the coward you are"

About to give in and take a step back, the crowd cheer and roar I thought my ears would explode. They were cheering for no other person but me. I can't back down now. There's too much at stake. I can't disappoint those who trust in me. "It's too late" I say to the sly voice.

Very soon, every where is silent and just the keyboard is playing. I am to sing alone then the rest of the instruments come in later. Just as Jason had said, I closed my eyes. I Picture my dad giving me his thumbs up. I picture my mom and Chloe giving me warm smiles. I picture all my friends cheering me wildly. I didn't even know when I started singing. Till half of the song I didn't even know who I was. Unconsciously, I opened my eyes and everyone in my eyes were like animals that can't be caged. I was doing it! I am finally doing it! All my fears are gone.

I smile and look at my side spotting Sophie, Jason and Farren who were staring at me wide-eyed with their mouths forming a 'wow'
    Hmm! This is not that bad. What was I so scared of all this while? right,...that I can't do it. But I was wrong. I'm stronger than I think. Way stronger. I look around and noticed that the banners, posters and pictures of Lisa wasn't there anymore. It was mine! Like when did they even take that picture, scratch that...those many pictures, and take it up there?

Whatever! right now I want to savor my first moment of breaking free from all my fears. It's something new yet familiar. This was i before, not until my dad disappeared into thick air. It's all coming back to me now: my confidence.

Bowing to the crowd after my performance, I ran back to hug Sophie. "Did you see me out there Sophie? I was soaring. It was like I've done it a thousand times". I ranted on.

  "Of course. I told you Becky."

  "You were right"

  "I knew you could do it. I always knew you could". She hugged me as I shut my eyes.

  "Thanks Sophie, for believing in me", we broke the hug.

  "Hey, what are friends for"

We laughed crazily.

Miss Farren came over with arms wide open and I hugged her.
  "You did it superstar, you did it and not a moment too soon. Your new fans want autographs and a few shots"

  "Wow, but..."

  "It's okay. I know you need to catch your breath after all those fire you gave out there"

  "She was like a dragon". I heard Jason say. I hadn't even noticed when he came over. "I'm so glad you conquered all your fears Becky".

  "Thanks", I gave him a nice embrace

  "I gave Lisa a call and she's grateful. She says you were shining." Farren said.

  "She was here?" I ask

  "No. She watched you on TV. I mean, everyone in the world did. By tomorrow you're gonna have tons of paparazzi and fans at your doorstep. But I'll make sure it's not pressurizing"

  "The world saw me?" I whispered to myself

  "You gotta get used to it best friend", Sophie nudged me.

  "I guess so". I said making everyone laugh.

  "Becky," Farren continued, "I'm so proud of you. Sophie, you did a great job speaking to your best friend. You're good with advices. You should consider being a counsellor".

Yes!!! I knew it. Someone give me a trophy.

  "Well...", Sophie said unsure. "...it won't hurt to try"

  "You'd do great, that I know for sure. You'll be a life changer"

  "Thanks", she replied smiling.

  "Becky, will I see you around again?"

  "Urm...I'm not sure" shoot shoot shoot. What do I say? "my parents are planning on moving. Far away like out of the country. So yeah, I'm not gonna be around for quite some time."

  "That's too sad. It would've been great to have someone like you here"

  "I'll still keep shining wherever I go to. Not just here" I say looking at Sophie.

  "That's good to hear. Wherever you are, don't forget who you are or what's inside of you. Let it all out, okay?"

  "Sure"

  "I gotta go now. Take care of yourself you both. You're Life-savers"

  "You take care too", I say.

  "Bye. And oh, don't forget to say hi to Lisa for us". Sophie said.

  "I won't". Farren said and with that she left.

  "So this is goodbye?". I heard Jason say. I simply nod.
"See you whenever the world decides". He hugged me one more time and I chuckled. "Bye Sophie", he said hugging Sophie too and ruffling her hair.

  "Hey!". I guess that one thing is never gonna change anywhere.

  "You look cute when you pout". He said and Sophie was red in a matter of seconds.

Not again!

  "Bye you two"

  "Bye Jason", Sophie said.

  "We'll miss you..." I say.

  "Same here. Bye". He said leaving to speak with other staffs.

  "What now?" I ask Sophie but she was distracted staring into a room. "Sophie? are you okay?"

  "There's a mirror in there". She said pointing to the room.

  "Really?" We rushed to go check and it was there. Like it was waiting for us.

  "I guess it's time to go back"

  "Hmhmm" I nodded. I then closed the door and made sure to check if there were any cameras in the room. "All clear".

  "Great. Are you with the locket?"

  "Yeah...it's right here". I say opening it while Sophie dipped her hand in the mirror and it went through.

  "Yep! That sure is our ride. Ready?"

  "I was born ready".

We held hands and stepped into the mirror and found ourselves back at Miss Paige's attic. Whoa! I've got some cool bedtime story to tell my children.
