Chapter Three

The bells went off for closing time. Sophie was ranting about how her annoying elder brother almost sprayed her hair orange.

I walked past the hallway, thankful that no one gave me a cold glare.
Phew! I want ready to die yet.

"You know what?", Sophie asked immediately. "We should have a sleepover at my house tonight, just you and me. It's Friday anyway. What do you say?"

"Well, umm..."

"Just say yes already. It's gonna be great; something to take your mind off what happened today..."

I sighed, "Alright. I guess I could fix your little tea party sleepover in my schedule."
I knew there was no point arguing. My sweet bestie always gets what she wants.

She let out a squeal, "Yipee...can't wait, can't wait"...
I gave her a genuine smile, "Me neither"... but wait!
I turned to Sophie and gave her a familiar look...

"...and yes, there's gonna be food..."
My ears perked at the mention of food.

" Dessert?..."

" Yep. Pig! "

"Hey...I'm not a pig." She smiled at me.

"Why of course. We're sophisticated people, Becky. We always have food awaiting you, so don't worry your little ass about food..."

I couldn't help but laugh. My best friend does know how to cheer me up.

We parted ways and decided to meet by five. As I opened the door to my house, I was greeted by the smell of delicious cooking.
"Hey hun". Mom said when she spotted me.

"Mom". I gave her a quick hug.

"....making lunch", she continued, "you want fried ribs or chicken casserole?"

"Both", I said as I headed up to my room...

"No wonder you're getting fat Becky", mom called after me.

I stepped into my room. My eyes landed on my dad's guitar which he gave me, or should I say left behind for me. I sighed and lay back on my bed, the memories of me and my dad floating in my head.

"Get over here Becky". My dad called as I ran into his arms.

"Play your guitar, daddy", I remember saying when I was seven.

"Alright, cupcake. But you know you're gonna have to sing for me, right?".

I nodded and began to sing melodiously. My talking voice was like Minnie mouse, but when I sang- even at seven...it was angelic. My mom and Chloe had come downstairs to listen to me sing.

After I was done with the singing, they all clapped. My mom had tears in her eyes when she came over to hug me.
" My little baby is already a diva. "
We all laughed.

"The food is ready sweetheart".

My thoughts were cut off by my mom's voice, but nothing could make me more happier than food.
"I'm coming", I shouted as I rushed downstairs.

The table was laid with my fried ribs and chicken casserole. Yummy.
Mom was seated already. "I can't wait to dig into this...."

I was cut off by Chloe's voice, "I'm home"

" Hey sis", I said. Her jaws dropped as she saw the food on the dining table.

"Whose are these?", she asked.

"Becky!" Mom replied before I had the chance to.

"Are you for real?", Chloe asked with her brows furrowed as she dropped her bag.

" Care to join?" I managed to ask with my mouth filled with food

"Nah! I'll pass"

"Not hungry dear?, Mom asked and Chloe just nodded as she plopped her big ass on the sofa. Yeah

She's got a big ass. My sister could pass for a model. She is so curvy and beautiful, with mapel brown hair and coffee brown eyes; all like my dad.

"Hey Mom?", I said.

"Hmm"

"Sophie is having a sleepover and wants me to come"

"And you want to go?", she asked

I nodded. Of course I do!

"Well I don't see why not", she said

"I can go?" I asked with a wide grin. You see, my mom is not so keen on me going to people's houses, but Soph is different..

" Yep. But first..."

"I know, I know. Ill get it done".

***
"Mom", I called out, "I'm off to Sophie's house". Mom came out from her bedroom as I put on my shoes.

" So, did you sweep the stairs?" she asked

"Yes"

"Your room?"

Huh! I rolled my eyes. "You can see for yourself... never been clean".

"Clothes? washed?"

"Ironed and folded..."

"Good", mom said smiling. Mom is one clean freak on planet Earth. She came over to hug me.
"I'll tell Chloe to drop you off".

Mom has a car but she rarely uses it. Chloe does most of the driving with her own car she got as a gift from dad on her seventeenth birthday.

Mom went upstairs to get Chloe and I grunted. I knew Chloe is going to take forever to come down. I waited outside with my bag and pillow. Fortunately, Chloe came down ten minutes later.
Hmm, normally she takes like thirty minutes.

"Took you long enough..", I said to her

"Hush, chipmunk!", she said while texting away on her phone.

"I'm not a..." I sighed. It was hopeless
She's going to keep calling me that for as long as I live. We got into the car and in like fifteen minutes, we were at Sophie's house. "Thanks for the ride"

Chloe drove off. I stared at the car till it was out of sight, "thanks for the ride? you make it sound like I'm your taxi driver", was her response to my greeting.
I smiled and went into the house.

There was no use knocking. Sophie's house was like my house. I've had enough scolding for always knocking; said I should just enter whenever I come since this was like my second home.
I've known Sophie since diaper age. We are practically inseperable.

"Hi Mrs David", I greeted her mom who was in the kitchen baking.

"Oh, hey darling", she gave me this heart melting smile that I can never get used to.
"Sophie told me you guys are having a sleepover", she said.

"Yeah, it was her idea".

" I know", she walked over to me and hugged me and I inhaled her sweet floral fragrance. "go on then, she's in there room".

"Ok thanks".
