She kept staring at me, I had no choice but to go to my seat

"Well...you see...", Ashely continued and grabbed my wrists. Again, stopping me right in my tracks. "Becky here is one talented singer of course, am I right?"

The whole class responded excitedly.

"and there's no harm in her trying her luck to stand in for our school, true?"

'Of course' we're released.

Wait! This is not happening. Say something Becky. Come on...

  "I...I...I...don't... I", I stuttered like a simpleton.

"Yes?", Ashely asked with a wide grin.

  "I...I'm...I'm sorry I can't".
I freed myself from her grip which made her hold tighter and ask; "but why not Becky? you're doing it for your own school. This is our big chance, there are lots of rewards awaiting us if we win. We can't afford to lose".

  "Then find someone else"

Ashely sighed, "come on Becky, no one else sings better than you in the entire school,..in my entire life as a matter of fact". I said nothing.
    "Can you at least try?"

Maybe I can. Maybe I can't. I want to, more than anything in the world. It's what I love doing. Music is life to me and it cures me from whatever problem I find myself in. I just get nervous that I want to pee in my pants anytime I sing in front of people. This happened after my dad   left 'cause when I sing, I see him and I just mess up badly. This made me stop. And now, a freaking singing competition? against other schools? other talented, bold and beautiful singers? not a chance.

  "You're gonna have fun Becky".

"Becky! Becky! Becky!...", Sophie chanted, "Becky! Becky!...", the rest of the class joined in.

No! I freed myself from Ashely's grip once again and made my way to the door with my head to the ground.
This is so humiliating. I know I'm disappointing them, but they are better off without me.

"Just let her go...", Britney chipped in.
Oh no!  "she's no good anyway. She's just selfish and self centered"

"That's not true". Sophie spoke up.

"Hey Soph. Its okay...", I said finally.

"You think you're a great singer that much that you can't represent your school. Such bitchy pride you have..." she ranted on...

"That's enough Britney". Whoa whoa whoa!! look who defended me, if it isn't cute 'ol Freddy!

"No...let her fuck off...", Britney spat.
"We'll find a better singer".

Stop Becky! don't cry! not in front of her. I made my way out of the classroom.

"I mean last week, she couldn't even sing Happy birthday for Midge...such a loser" Britney continued after Becky left and began twirling her hair around her fingers.

Sophie was boiling hot. She had to do something. She couldn't allow Britney talk about her best friend that way, not in a million years. "Yeah, like you're any better". Sophie pressed on.

"If you have a problem, tell it to her not everybody else!" She stood up and walked over to Britney. "I mean, I've noticed it for sometime now, Britney. You are just jealous of Becky, but hey! she doesn't even hate you for being envious, instead she respects your jealousy; because people like you just thin you're the better ones".

Low 'oohs' and murmurings filled the classroom.

"Sophie's right anyway", Ashely spoke after a long time now.
"We shouldn't force Becky to do anything she doesn't want to. Who knows? she might be a great singer, but when the willingness isn't there, she might end up flopping big time out there..."

"Yeah". Sophie said glaring at Britney.
"You tell that to little miss jealous here. She just wants to bring Becky down because she knows Becky is way better than her".

"What?", Britney exclaimed with wide eyes filled with eye shadows and mascara.

  "Yeah, you heard me..."

"Why you little...", Britney raised her hands to slap Sophie who gasped. She waited to feel the pain of the incoming slap but it never came.

"Put your hands down Britney". Freddy said in a thundering voice; his strong hands on Britney's feeble wrists.

"What are you doing Freddy? don't tell me you're taking sides with her"

"Just drop it already, okay?..." He frowned at her. Britney had no choice than to comply. She sat down reluctantly and made a rush to fix her make-up that wasn't even ruined in the first place.

Freddy looked at Sophie and nodded. He gave her a genuine smile and strolled back to his seat in all his greek-god glory.

Sophie swears her face is red like a tomato now and hurriedly leaves the class to find Becky.

The class was in total unbearable silence. "So", Ashely said totally dragging the 'o', "I'll...um..I guess I'll just... erm, meet the principal". She darted off.

Freddy focused on a book he was reading before, while Britney was- well she was cursing away with her other friends.
