Sophie and I sit in silence in the lunch hall. None of us says a word about the incident in class. The tension is killing us both. We finally stared at each other, no emotions present and before you know it...we both burst out laughing.
We earned ourselves some stares and a few heads turned to face us but we didn't mind. Sophie has tears in her eyes now.
"Oh my God", she said, "you won't believe it"
"What?". I asked in the middle of giggles and chuckles
"I totally told Britney off after you left the class before"
"Seriously? remind me next time to never walk out when you're angry...I hate to miss the drama when you get mad. Cute."
I put my hamburger in my mouth. No matter what happens or how deplorable may mood may be, I've got my own source of joy which is no other than food.
"That's not even the best part of it all", Sophie continued.
"What next?", I furrowed my brows
"Freddy actually stopped Britney from hitting me"
My poor food came out as my jaw dropped open. "You have got to be kidding me".
"Believe it or not, that's what happened. I was bewildered too"
"...and red as a rose?"
"Umm...I guess I was"
"OMG! you're blushing again?"
"Whatever lets eat".
She finally touched her food she hadn't even noticed was in front of her .
"Alright." I say. "but you know I love you Soph, for always standing up for me. You know I'd always do the same for you right?"
"Of course I do, daffy. You don't have to remind me all the time when I do something little for you".
I began humming to a favourite song of mine when my eyes landed on Freddy sitting far away from us. Wait! is Freddy staring at...who? Sophie?
It's definitely not me."Umm...Soph, don't look now but it seems like your dear crush is eye raping you..."
She was about to turn but I was fast to stop her. "No! don't look". I looked at him...he stared deeply at her. "Ok, I can't take it anymore, turn now..."
Sophie quickly threw a quick glance his way at her side and their eyes locked for a moment before Sophie turned back to me.
"Oh no!" Sophie said practically out of breath.
"Okay okay...breath now, In and out, in and out", I say not forgetting to throw some food in my mouth.
"Is he still looking?"
I stole a peek his way and I saw him turning away the exact moment. Oops! he saw Sophie hyperventilate because of him. "no he's not".
"Oh no, oh no"
"I don't what's so 'oh no' about this. You should be 'oh yes' "
"Freddy looked at...I mean he actually stared at me?"
I nodded.
"Oh God. Do you think Beck, that...that...oh my God, is he?" she stared at me with wide eyes sparkling with delight.
"Yeah. I think Freddy is starting to feel something for you. Isn't that great?"
"Yes. I mean...wait! we can't be so sure yet. It could mean anything. There might be something on my back" she turned her back slightly to me, "is there something on my back?"
