Kinsley's POV:
I turn around to see a boy, probably the same year as me behind me holding a piece of paper in his hands.
"Excuse me, I think this fell out of your pocket" he says confidently.
Confused I grabbed it, maybe it was my Starbucks receipt or something.
"Thanks" I said walking in, leaving him stranded all by himself. I make my way to the romance section and pick up 'The Notebook'. I find a seat near a window in the back of the library. Finally sitting down I open the crumbled piece of paper he gave me . Written inside, I see his number. Not know wether i should be disgusted or impressed, I use it as a bookmark.
Getting lost in the world of ally and Noah, my reading is disturbed by a light tapping noise. Not knowing where it came from I look around and see it's pouring. I didn't even see it start raining. I always get lost in my thoughts when I read. I never read when he was alive. I mean I'd read the occasional school required books, but never on my own. When my parents turned to physical abuse, I found reading was my only way out. Diving into the fictional realities would take me away from my own. All the pain, sadness, and hurt would disappear the minute I opened a book. I continue to stare out the window until a boy catches my attention. I see him walk by with a togo coffee cup like he was taunting me to get some.
Not being able to say no to coffee, I pack up my stuff and check out the notebook so I can finish it at the coffee shop. I run through the rain till I'm out of breath. I turn around to see I'm only 16 feet away from the library entrance. Yeah, I played contact sports, but running was never my strong suit. My feet start involuntarily moving towards the coffee shop. I walk in and only see about four other people here.
The pastry's looked really good, but I cant keep going on random splurges of spending money. I had to save up for the essentials. Coffee.
I ordered a small hot coffee and made my way to the corner booth, my coffee arriving only a few moments later. Taking a sip out of the coffee and nearly giving myself a second degree burn, I turn to the window. I watched the drops of water on the window race until I felt somebody's gaze on the back of my head. I looked around the shop when my eyes meet the female barrista who took my order. Her presence had a dark presence to it, but something drew me to her. I turn back to my coffee and look to see which water droplets won the race.
I quickly finish the coffee and order another to-go. This time I wait at the counter and watch her make the coffee. My eyes trail off to the back of her ear where a small tattoo lays. A semi-colin joining the winds of a butterfly. I never wanted a tattoo but once my mom shared a dislike to it, I started taking interest in it. She turns around, coffee in had, and catches me staring. Embarrassed cause I was caught I decide to complement her.
"I like your tattoo" I state.
"Thanks" she mumbles and hands me my coffee.
I turn around quickly to get away from that awkward interaction when I ram into somebody's chest and fall down. Even worse, my coffee didn't make it out alive.
"Watch where the fuck you're going" he says while I lay helpless on the floor and drenched in what used to be my beautiful cup of coffee. I start to get up when he grabs my wrist and pulls me up quickly.
"You stupid shit. Now I have to clean this fucking mess up." he continues. Lost and confused I stand there contemplating wether or not I should run away.
"What do you mean, you're the one who fucking ran into me."
"Oh, fuck off" he says and walks into the storage room.
