"Hey, Apple," Ed bumped into him. "Did you like the party?"
"Yeah," he told him. The party was nice and it was fun to talk to so many people and tell stories, but it hurt to see Katy leave. She already looked homesick and she hadn't even left the pack house. "It was fun."
"It's always kind of sad when someone gets mated to someone of another pack and they have to move away," Ed sighed. They were both walking up to the third floor, where, unfortunately, Max had called an emergency meeting. "I'm more worried about Nick at this point."
"Me too," his heart ached just thinking about his friend. Usually, Nick loves being the spotlight of every party, whether it be telling jokes and stories, or just dancing. But tonight he just stayed in the background, watching everyone else. And with what he had told Charlie before he had to go, it broke his heart thinking about just how lonely Nick was.
"You talked to him before, right?" Ed's golden eyes looked just as worried as him. "How did he sound?"
"Lost," Charlie told him. "He looked so lost, Ed. I didn't even want to leave him alone." He never thought he'd see Nick like that. He always had a 'go with the flow' aura to him. Everything that happened, he just went with. But now it seemed like he was confused about everything. He left him staring at the moon.
"You should have seen him when Katy first found her mate," Ed shook his head. "He was standing there, staring at the door that she left through. I didn't think he could hear me when I asked him if he was okay."
"We're going to have to see how he's doing when this meeting's done," he told him. There was no way he was going to leave Nick by himself that night. Not when he needed them the most.
Would the Moon Goddess really not give someone like Nick a mate? Just because he had erectile dysfunction? He didn't know whether Ed knew about it or not, as it seemed like something that Nick was insecure about. So, he wouldn't ask him. He was still new to the Moon Goddess that they all prayed to. He was never a religious man, but he never held it against any of them. Maybe he'd try and send a prayer to her, though, just for Nick. Maybe she'd listen to his request and help him in whatever way that she could.
"I'm so sick of meetings," Sam groaned. He caught up with them just as they got to the door of the third floor. Charlie had grown to like this floor. It was dead quiet, and the perfect place to get things done when he needed to. He had an office in there, right next to Max's where he could do his work and listen to requests from the pack members. He caught onto the paperwork quite easily. He was used to dealing with office work from school. Studying to be a lawyer always required a lot of paperwork.
The only thing he hated was the fact that the kitchen was so far from here. He still wanted to bake his pies, but it was getting more difficult as his Luna duties were taking up most of his time. Max told him it wouldn't be as bad as soon as they convinced the other packs to help them with the rogues. These meetings had been the most annoyingly frustrating thing imaginable.
Annoyingly frustrating?
Ugh. His brain was so fried.
"I wonder what it's about," Ed said. "He wouldn't tell me until the meeting."
"He left somewhere during the party," Charlie told them. "I'm guessing it has something to do with that."
"He left?" Sam looked at him, his dirty blond hair was still done up professionally for the party. "How did we not notice that he left?"
"Because you were with your twins," he smiled. It was so adorable that they had gotten twins. They were identical too. "And Ed was with Emily. And Tyler was falling asleep on Isabelle's shoulder."
