"How do we know he's going to come back?" Jackie asked. She was sitting on Herbs lap, enjoying breakfast. Herb was rubbing her stomach lovingly. It was nice to watch a couple being so loving to each other. He could tell that the ground was much too hard on the poor woman's back. There was already enough pressure on her spine with her bump growing so quickly.

She told Alistair that they were thinking it was twins. They had done the best they could to make sure that she was eating healthy.

"He will," Madeline replied. "He'll either want us out of here, or he'll bring us inside. Either way, he's not going to want some rogues to just sit here outside of his territory."

"That Alpha was the biggest I've ever seen," Herb said, wide-eyed. "I didn't even know werewolves got that big!"

"Alistair," Jackie looked to him. "Have you seen a wolf that big before?"

"I saw one close to it," he answered. "The Moon Goddess has truly blessed this one, though. She must be proud of this pack."

"I hope that means they aren't brutal," Jackie shivered. "They said that our pack was blessed by the Moon Goddess too."

"A true blessing isn't given to you," he looked over at the creek. Madeline had been able to catch some fish with some extra string she had. It made for a great breakfast. "It's earned through listening to the Moon and staying faithful to her."

"And you think our pack wasn't truly blessed?" her brown eyes looked so curious at him. They always ate up every word that he said.

"I don't believe the Moon Goddess would take kindly to an Alpha allowing someone to steal someone's mate," he shook his head. "Mates are the people that she pairs together herself. I can only imagine your old pack going through hard times because of that."

"I hope so," Herb said. He was holding onto her tightly as he spoke of mates. "I hope they're cursed for what they were trying to do."

"I don't want to wish ill on anyone," Jackie shook her head. Her long hair traveled with her as she moved. "I just hope they change their ways."

"I'm just glad we didn't stick around to find out," Herb said.

The morning birds were chirping up a storm as they talked. Alistair knew that they were still being watched. He could feel the eyes of the guards on him all night. It was another reason why he wouldn't sleep. He had gone plenty of days without sleeping. It wasn't the best of ideas, as sleep always replenished his strength and the sharpness of his thoughts, but when it was necessary, he was able to do it.

"So, why did you say you wanted to be in the pack too?" Madeline asked. "I thought you were just going to try and pass."

"I wasn't sure yet," he told her. "But the pull got stronger when I met that Alpha."

"Really?" she cocked her head. "I've never heard of this pull of yours, Alistair, but I hope that it's leading you to good things."

"It must," he looked to the creek again. "I don't think I would be this excited for it if it was something bad."

"Sometimes feelings are hard to figure out," Herb said. "Sometimes you can think that they're good, and they're actually bad."

"My instincts have never been wrong before," he shook his head. "That's why I only follow them."

"That's a good trait to have," Madeline said. "Being a tracker, you have to listen to your instincts a lot as well."

"When do you think he's going to come back then?" Jackie looked a little anxious. "Should we go back into our wolf forms until he comes?"
