"There you are," Madeline sat next to him. He was outside of the cabin, looking at the sun as it left the sky. "We were wondering where you disappeared to."

"I'm sorry," he told her. "I didn't want to worry anyone."

"Alistair, you say sorry too much," Madeline chuckled a bit. "Mind telling me why you've been so distant lately?"

"Distant?"

"You've been quiet the whole day," she put a hand on his back. "All you've been doing is staring off into space."

"I've been thinking," he told her. He had been praying for forgiveness, and hoping that the Moon Goddess would grant him one more chance.

He knew he didn't deserve it, but he knew that the goddess was a merciful one. If not, he wouldn't have lived this long.

"Is it about Nick?"

"Yes," he answered. He had a feeling that the woman was able to read people well. Maybe that was why she trusted him so easily. He hadn't had anyone trust him as quickly as Madeline had. Although Jackie was close behind her on that list.

"I had a feeling," she answered. He looked at her to see that her golden eyes were watching him like a mother to a child. "Mates are never easy. Especially in situations like this one."

"You have experience in this?"

"No," she chuckled. "I haven't been lucky enough to find my mate. But I've heard enough stories, that I'd like to think I'm good at giving advice."

"I'm not sure if there's any advice you could give me," he said. It pained him that he could feel that pull so far away again. He wished that he could be as close to him as he was that night. But he had made the mistake of going too far.

"What did you do?"

"I let myself lose control," he explained, shaking his head. "I think I pushed him too far."

"By doing...?" she insisted.

"It would be embarrassing to say," he turned away from her. She just laughed at his words.

"Alistair, we're all werewolves here. And, trust me, I've probably heard worse."

He didn't feel like he had a choice. He had found that Madeline was stubborn in her ways, and she wasn't going to give up if it was something she really wanted to know. She had done the same with Ed before, shocking the Gamma.

He slowly told her what had happened that night. He told her that Nick had come late at night to brush his coat. That he had fallen asleep. Alistair had turned into his human form in his sleep, something that he hadn't done before.

Then he told her what had happened when they had both woken up. The feeling that he had felt when he was touching the man was foreign to him. The man was addicting to touch, so much so that he had started to let himself enjoy the moment.

"So, you tried to mate with him," Madeline said. "That's not that bad of a mistake. It's actually pretty common for mates to want to do, hence the word 'mate'."
