The hustle and bustle of the kitchen was always a welcome sound. The chaos that came from making a bunch of different food at once was what made the place feel like home for him. Aldi had told him that the kitchen, even if it seemed crazy, always had an order to it. It only took him a few months to understand what he said.
When Nick was first starting out as a chef there, he had no idea what to start with. It was overwhelming when you looked at all the orders that came in from all the people in the mansion. They all wanted something different. Parties were a completely different story, but the everyday life could easily overwhelm anyone who was working in the kitchen.
It was like its own little dance. And it didn't take too long for him to get into the groove. His father always told him that the world was a song, just waiting to be danced to. He really did love the stage.
"Don't you think it's something to worry about though?" Alan said. He was another chef on the morning shift. "I mean, we've never welcomed rogues onto our territory."
"And we've never had a male Luna," Nick argued with him. "And we've never had a Delta as a chef, or a head one at that. There's always firsts for everything, Alan."
The kitchen was also the main gossip hub. All the workers went there to hear the latest news on everything and everyone. Even with all the sounds and clashing of pans that came from the kitchen, you could always hear at least one person talking about something that happened.
"But they're rogues!" the man grabbed a pan and slammed it on the stove. He was on egg duties. And there were a lot of people asking for omelets today. "Why should we trust them?"
"I don't know," Nick shrugged. "Max said that it was agreed upon by the council. They hadn't even gotten on our territory until they were let in."
Max had made the announcement about the rogues being allowed a chance to prove themselves about a week ago. It was the day after the Harvest Moon pack left. He told everyone that they had asked to join the pack, and the council agreed to try and test them. It seemed a little risky to him, but he trusted Max and the council.
"Did the council really agree on it?" the blue-eyed man muttered. "Or was it just Charlie convincing them?"
"You really think it was all just Charlie's idea?" he cocked an eyebrow. "Man, you must think that pigs can fly, huh?"
"He's the only one who would come up with an idea like that!"
"I hear that the rogues are actually pretty good people," one of the dishwashers said. She was a blonde named Daphne. "The warriors talk well about them."
"I heard that one of them saved Tyler," another dishwasher said.
Remember how he said that this was the main gossip hub?
"How did he save Tyler?" Alan shook his head in disbelief.
"He went in front of him and saved him from an attack," they told him.
"Desmond was telling me that he could hear the rogues breathing from the other side of the boundary lines," Nick added. He liked hanging out with Desmond and Ray. They had been really interested in the rogues lately, though. There was something about one of them that they couldn't figure out apparently.
"I just don't like this," Alan shook his head. "It's right when we're trying to push them out of here, too."
"Max wouldn't let them come in if he thought they were going to harm us," Nick assured him. "You know how he is about that."
"I know, but what if he's just blinded by the Luna?"
"Alan, I don't get you," he shook his head. "Just a few months ago, you were talking about how he was going to be the best Luna for our pack. Now you're saying that he's blinding Max? You need to make up your mind, man."
