Chapter 12: Lost & Found

Next day

Harvey's P.O.V:

Lessons were done and my head felt extremely light and was hurting badly. I could not stand another class of Math. No way. My brains were basically pressing against each other for dear life. How is it even possible to get through math class without a single throb?

I initially wanted to bring Maisie out on a date but she had plans for the whole week, leaving me with just me, myself and I. Depressing.

I got in my car and clicked my seatbelt on. I turned the engine on and I thought about going to McDonalds to chill out for a while. I needed a change of scenery anyways.

I drove my car down the street to the nearby McDonalds and parked there. I accidentally bump my head on the wat out on the hood and I bite my lower lip to hold in my scream. Maybe being a giraffe wasn't the most ideal after all.

I slowly make my way inside, with a hand on my head, trying to make it less painful.

And my eyes glanced upon a blonde girl. Her eyes sparkled as she talked to her friend beside her. She wasn't paying close attention to who came through the door anyways, so I was in the clear. I didn't really want to talk to her, or I guess I didn't know how to explain the past few years to her in one hour.

I ordered my food from the counter and felt a light tap on my shoulder. God damn it, I thought I was fine.

"Hey." She flashes a quick smile before going all awkward again.

"Hey. Cool to see you here." I reply, clutching my fists tight, trying not to mess things up.

"If you don't mind...care to join us?" She gives me that radiant smile that I never could forget since the day we met.

"That's fine with me." I smile back before rushing to get my food and plopped myself on a seat next to them.

She looks at me and notices something weird. She stares at it for a while and tries to analyse something.

"Harvey, are you engaged?" She asks, breaking the silence between us.

"Yep. I'm getting married next year, after university ends." I reply and noticed a ring on her finger too.

She realises what I'm staring at and hides her hand with the other quickly. She looks away for a moment and turns back to look at me.

I glanced at her eyes. Her eyes were forming oceans. Her nose was glowing red. I knew what she meant.

She was engaged to him. The guy I told her to stay away from. She didn't listen. She never did. She thought it was true love. She thought wrong. But she has no choice. She tried. She fought hard, but nothing worked out for her.

"Look, I'm sorry. I-" I got up and stood behind her, arms wide open.

"May I?" I asked and she nodded. I slid my two arms around her shoulders and she grabbed onto my arm and soaked it with her tears.

I didn't want to tell her anything about Payton trying to hook up with my girlfriend, and so every time I almost let it roll off my tongue, I bit my lower lip hard. She was sad enough, why make it worse? She already knows what she needs to know. No need to rub more pain into the scars of a beautiful.

"I'm so sorry. Why didn't you call?" I ask.

"I thought no one would help me. I thought no one would listen to me. I thought no one would understand me. I'm in a dark place, Harvey. I don't want to drag anyone in either. It isn't fair to them."
