Chapter 4: Partners
Start of school (aka first day of school)
Loren's P.O.V:
I walked into class and everyone seemed to be in class. Usually, I am never late for school, I don't own any late-coming slips. I stopped to check the clock above the whiteboard and it was a good 30 minutes before school starts. Everyone is probably excited for school and I am no exception.
We have not met our teachers yet, but I am so eager to know who our science teacher is, since I enjoy science a little too much.
As I walk to find an empty seat around the classroom, it dawned on me that Ariel hasn't reached class yet. She probably overslept today, since I didn't call her or anything.
One of the new friends I made, Connor, offered a seat in the column in front of him, which was perfectly positioned in front of Harvey's seat.
You might be thinking that Harvey and I would probably start talking and having little conversations. But no, it was total silence between all 3 of us. No one spoke a word. Not even Connor and Harvey. I was expecting a conversation starter from one of them so that I could join in, but perhaps they had different plans.
As the clock strikes 8 and the bell goes off, the teacher walks in and introduces themselves. His name was Mr Brydon, who was also going to be our English teacher.
After another round of 2 truths and 1 lie, Mr Brydon decided to change our seats to get to know more people in our class and not just sticking to our own friend groups. He moved me to the right side of the class, but the very first row, which meant I was right next to the door. Our class table arrangement was 2 tables in a column for each row, which meant that I would have a deskmate.
After moving all the girls, he starts moving on to the boys. I was anxious on who I was going to get as I was one of the few girls who had to have a boy as a deskmate, which is going to be really weird and awkward.
He goes around and asks every boy to move and he finally reaches the last guy in class. The thing was I still didn't have a partner, which meant that by hook or by crook he had to sit next to me. I couldn't figure out who it was, thanks to a giraffe blocking my vision.
The person stands up and packs his stuff into his back. He walks from his end of the classroom to my end and slowly takes the seat next to me. I could tell he was a little awkward, he was shying away, but I can't really say much. Everyone's first impression of me is a fierce woman. Like come on now, I feel like I have a bag of laughing gas in me all the time.
As he turns around to greet me, I could not believe who was sitting next to me. It was the most popular kid in the whole school. Yeah, I know. It's only the first few hours of school and there is already someone crowned as the most popular student. Not even I could believe it too.
"Hey." He greets in his husky voice.
I hear his voice and I am just left stunned on my seat. Help me.
"Hey, I'm Loren. Nice to meet you, Payton." I smile as I greet him back. I don't really know if he's good company, but I do know that I have a really good first impression of him. He seems really chill and friendly, nothing bad about him so far that I know of.
And again, as our teacher being his adventurous self, like he mentioned, he wanted to pair us up with someone in our class randomly and anonymously. You will only get to know who they are a month prior. We all receive a number and I couldn't wait to text them.
End of school
School's done for the day, earlier this time since it's orientation week. We walked pass the senior classes, where all of them has their heads down and taking notes while the teaching commences. I mean, for a prestigious school, this is acceptable, but I'm not used to this.
