Chapter 22: Pain

Harvey's P.O.V:

The problem with long distance relationships isn't the trust issues. It was the guilt that comes along. For some, it starts to grow later on in the relationship but for others, it is immediate.

I look out the window, my eyes never leaving America. The plane was in the air and the buildings started turning into ants. I tried to relocate the airport and when I did, I was instantly struck by the thought of her breaking down.

As the plane flies across the shiny, blue ocean, I glanced at the island I regarded as my home for 10 years before it disappeared and out of my sight.

I pulled out the folded table and tapped my fingers on it while I scrolled through my photos on my phone.

The sun rays shined through my window and something silver reflected it from the corner of my eye. I turned to look at the ring on my hand.

It was a ring with a hole on the front. I slowly traced my finger around it and drawing out a shape of a butterfly.

Flashback:

I took off my shoes and made my way into the apartment.

"Honey, you're home!" Loren runs up and gives me a warm hug. I only took one step into the apartment and I'm already greeted by this cute little bear.

"You seem very excited. What's going on babe, hmm?" I ask and she walks me to the couch.

"Sit here, I'll be right back." She grins from ear to ear and she sprints to our bedroom to grab something.

Not long after

"Honey, I need you to close your eyes shut. No peeking like last time, okay?" She exclaims as I heard her voice from the hallway.

"Alright, it's closed now." I place my hand over my eyes, but yes, I was a cheater again, I left a little gap between my fingers to peek through.

She waves her hand in front of me to check if I am peeking and of course, I pretend to not see it and tried not to flinch.

"I know you're peeking!" She places her face close to mine and she looks through the hole between my fingers.

"Damn it." I pretended to be guilty.

"Okay for real though, close your eyes." She said.

I shut my eyes for real and she grabs my hand gently before lifting it up. She slowly pull away each finger away from my palm and places something small.

"Okay, open your eyes."

I open them and I took a look at what she placed in the centre of my palm.

"I know you don't like rings but-"

"Wait what? No, I love rings now." I quickly slide it onto my middle finger and admired it from every angle.

She glances at me and her eyebrows narrow but I flashed her a quick smile and her eyebrows relaxed.

Loren took a seat next to me and I was looking around, figuring out if she had a matching ring.

She carefully lifts her hand from its resting position on the couch and moves it close to my hand.

"I've got a ring too, but mine is that missing piece from your ring." She smiles.

"You really do give me butterflies." I point at the ring and looked back at her.

"That was what I was gonna tell you! You smarty little cheeky pooh bear." Her eyes shines from the sunlight coming through the window and I hold her tight.
