Chapter 3: The Past
Harvey's P.O.V:
I stared at her gentle blue eyes. Soft yet beautiful. I felt so mesmerised in those.
Ariel starts talking again, but I couldn't stop thinking about what had happened. She had blonde hair that gracefully fell to her shoulders.
After ice breakers, we were doing a game called "Running Man". In this game, you need to collect cards around the school and answer the questions on it to keep it. Every card was worth 10 points. There is also someone who will be assigned a runner, which will be the person with a band around their waist, with 2 tags on it. Only the runner is allowed to steal from other runners. For every tag you have in the end, it is worth 30 points.
We all had to get into groups of 5, which means we had to split our current grouping into 2. I spot Loren and decided to ask her to join my group, which had me, Connor and Landon. Connor and Landon has been my best friends for 4 whole years. That's crazy.
There was something about Loren that is really different, in a good way. My school life hasn't been the best, mainly because of all my past relationships.
In sophomore year, I dated my classmate, Bella. She was really cute, but soon I realised she was seeing someone behind my back. I knew that something like this would happen, since she is liked by a lot of guys in the school. I thought she would change after we dated but apparently not. And adding on to that, she was trash-talking about me when she was with her friends.
I had another relationship, it was with my lab partner during sophomore year as well. April had a great personality and was really sweet. But at that time, people were still making fun of me and stuff, so the most popular guy hooked up with her and she cheated on me. Well, I have no words about that one.
And as my dumb self, I fell in love again during senior year. It was, however, the longest relationship I had. Her name was Mabel. We both worked really hard to maintain our relationship, but everything fell apart when her ex wanted her back. She didn't want to get back with him, she did try, but it wasn't enough.
Man, everytime I fall in love, it spells bad omen. There's like a curse or something revolving around me and it causes me to have never-lasting relationships.
I came to this school, hoping to have a better experience here and a new start. I'm fine with crushing on people, but I don't think I want it to be serious. I'm just over all the heartbreaks I have to go through, and every single one is like having a knife stab through your heart, the pain refusing to go away. Sometimes, I almost go into the state of depression. Just almost.
As much as avoiding relationships is good for me right now, if I could find someone that truly is the one, I'm fine with that. I just need someone to hug me tightly, until the broken pieces of my heart stick back together again.
Loren is really cute, but maybe I shouldn't take it too serious. As I snap back into reality from my deep thoughts, I see Loren staring at me, wondering if I was okay.
"Harvey, are you okay? You seem a little dazed." She asks kindly.
"I'm good, thanks for the concern." I smile at her and she quickly flashes back a smile before continuing her conversation with Ariel.
The game starts and everyone disperses into different venues. Our facilitator, Maya, brought us to the library, in hopes of a card.
My friend Connor has the belt with the tags, so we made sure he stayed sandwiched between us. Nowhere else. We don't want to be giving away free points to people. Yes, I'm very competitive when it comes to these games.
As we walked around the place, I see Loren being very quiet. Ariel went to the restroom so that was probably why. I walked up to her and there was something that made me want to know her better.
"Hey Loren!" I greet her.
"Hey! How are you coping with the weather? It's really hot today." She fans herself with her hand and we start talking. I found out that she had attended the school next to the school I attended previously, but we never saw each other before. She also liked Animal Crossing, just as much as me, or even more.
We have a great conversation, until Ariel joins along. We all shared our little moments and our experience in this school so far. It's been great for me, especially now that I have made another 2 friends. And not to mention that it is always hard for me to make friends of the opposite gender, so I guess this was a plus.
As the game comes to an abrupt end due to the sudden stormy weather, we were all released for an early break. I go with Connor and Landon like usual, but I decided to call Loren and Ariel to join us too. At least my friends can get to know them.
We all grabbed some sandwiches from the cafeteria and managed to find an empty table for all 5 of us. I could tell Landon was hard falling for Ariel, but turns out she's taken, but they are doing long distance. That must really be a hard thing to do, especially when you can't see each other 24/7.
I must say, Loren is really pretty though. How many times have I said that, oh gosh. I don't even understand why no one would woo her or something. She's dead drop gorgeous and has a great personality. She's friendly and an amazing person to talk to.
Oh well, I'm probably not her type anyways so let's not take it too serious now, Mr Harvey Leigh Cantwell. Remember what happened last time. Let's not do the same mistake again.
Loren's P.O.V:
As we all eat our sandwiches, I couldn't help but stare at Harvey's golden poof ball of hair, seating neatly right on top of his head. He had a tattoo on his neck, seemed like roman numbers, which he did mention was his mom's birthday. How sweet is that?
I tell the boys that me and Ariel needed to use the restroom and we sprinted across the cafeteria to get to our "safe place", where no one is gonna listen in on our little gossips or small talks.
"Loren, are you really hard falling for that blonde hair? You know you just got out of a relationship and you know your heart is still healing. What if he breaks your heart and stuff if both of you start taking things seriously? Come on now Loren, you know-" Ariel starts spilling out everything she was trying to hold in from just now.
"I know, but this time, I feel something. Like it's different from all my past relationships. There's just that spark. But I'm not really sure if I should believe in it. I never felt this way before, Ariel."
"Let's not take things serious first. You can just have like a little crush on him, but let everything happen on its own. If it's meant to be, it will be. So just let everything be for now. Don't worry so much about it." She reassures me.
We both agreed and headed back to where the guys were and they seemed to be super engrossed in their conversation. They didn't even notice we were here.
The school bell rings and everyone rushes like wild wolf packs to the hall for the next part of our orientation. As we walked to the hall, I felt a hand brush pass mine and as I turned to see who it was, my heart could not stop fluttering. Like this is not a drill. This is serious. I'm really falling for him. I really am.
