Chapter 1: Catching a Cheater
Loren's P.O.V:
It was senior prom. And of course, my date was George, supposedly. My boyfriend. But as I leave the bathroom, I notice he was no longer outside the bathroom, waiting for me like I thought he would.
I search around for him and I spot him sitting back on his chair, but someone else was on my assigned seat.
I cautiously walked over to take a peek. Like I thought, he was smiling at her, giving her one kiss after another. Making out while your girlfriend is still around? Ew.
I take a deep breath and tried to keep my calm as I walked towards the couple.
"Hey losers. Mind if I sit here?" I roll my eyes as George looks at me, but his reaction was something I had never anticipated.
"You're such an ass, Loren. Did you ever think I liked you that way?" He smirks and turns back to look at Riley and I was at lost for words.
"You could have told me that earlier, you psycho." I said my last words and I stood up and headed straight for the exit.
My best friend, Ariel, saw me leave in a rush and quickly followed me out of the venue. The moment I stepped out of the room, my legs went jelly and I fall to he ground, my back against the wall. Tears welled up in my eyes and force them back. I didn't want Ariel to worry about me.
But Ariel read through me. One glance and she knew everything.
"Did he cheat on you?" Ariel asks as she sits down next to me and passes me a water bottle she was holding onto from the party.
"That dumbass. Why did I fall for all his traps? God, I'm such an idiot. He made it so clear too that he never liked me, but I just never noticed. I'm so dumb Ariel, I'm so freaking dumb-"
Ariel gives me a hug and all the tears I fought hard to hold back fell down my cheeks and my lungs were getting tight.
"Loren, you don't deserve that player. You deserve someone so much better than him. Come on, let's head back inside and join my boyfriend." She smiles at me and holds out her hand. I grab it and she pulls me back up on my two feet.
The doors open and I look down at my shoes as I followed Ariel through the crowd. I didn't want anyone to see my face. I looked awful. But I couldn't leave the party yet, which made things worse.
"Hey buddy, what's wrong?" Blake asks.
Blake is Ariel's boyfriend. He always calls me buddy, I don't know how it started but I don't mind it. We usually study together as Ariel would always ask him along when we hang out or study together. I wish I could have a relationship just like theirs. No drama, just true love.
"That loser cheated on this beautiful girl. But honestly, it's for the best. That guy has always been acting strange." Ariel explains.
In the corner of my eye, I see them, again. Still kissing, not even regretting his decision or even showing a sign that he wants me back. I couldn't stop staring at them. But I knew that it just makes it worse and worse.
"Loren, don't stare at them. It's not gonna change anything for the better. Just ignore them. You don't need that negativity in your way." Ariel lays her hand on my shoulder and her other hand has a cup of fruit punch that she passes to me after.
"Thanks." I force a smile on my face and she turns me around to face her and her boyfriend.
We all start talking about collage and girl stuff, which Blake was not into, like me and Ariel thought.
