"Gone? How?"

"I don't know. She's very powerful."

"Can't you use a tracker spell on her?"

"She most likely put a protection spell around herself. Ulrich couldn't even sniff her out."

"We will find her. Attempted murder is no laughing matter." The witch said.

"Yes. She can't hide forever." Said the fairy.

They asked me several questions about the situation. I told them we were in the woods, waiting for the moon to come out when she attacked us out of no where. How she pushed the moon behind the clouds, and attacked our human forms. Bayne looked as if he was getting more pale.

"I think we got all we need here." They got up to leave.

"Wait! What about Bayne?" I stopped them.

"What about him?" The vampire asked.

"He's hurt. Can you guys fix him?"

"We are not doctors. You seem to have a pretty good healer here. Perhaps he can figure it out."

"That's it? Bayne could be dying and you do nothing?"

"It is unfortunate, what happened to Mr.Bayne Greene. But there's nothing we can do."

"There has to be something. You're supposed to ensure the safety of creatures in Canada. How dare say you are when you can't even help him!"

"Ulrich. Pardon your son. He should know not to speak to his superiors like that." Snapped the vampire.

"Yes, ma'm. My apologies." Said Ulrich, lowering his head.

I had never seen my father take orders from anyone. He followed every order they made. Some government. Wouldn't even make the effort to help their people, I thought.

They had finally left. I was angry with them, but mainly worried about poor Bayne.

"I think everyone should leave. Even you, Erin. It's getting a bit cramped in here for me and Raven to work. Don't worry, I'll let you know if anything happens." Romulus touched my shoulder.

I nodded and agreed. We all left. Only Romulus and Raven stayed. My father went to speak with the other guardians. I told Nadine the entire story of what happened.

"All this and still no luck of finding Remus?" Said Nadine. We sat on the stairs that was in the dining hall.

"Yeah. Without Bayne, we can't find Remus. And I'll stay a wolf." I said.

"Is that the only thing you're worried about?" She asked.

She was right. I knew what she was getting at. Bayne. I was so worried about him. I wanted to save him. I wanted him to wake up and tell him I loved him. I knew I would be rejected, but my heart hurt. I didn't want him to die. I regretted avoiding him.

"We can't do anything. We'll just have to wait on Raven and Romulus. It'll be alright." She comforted me.

"I know. What did you and my dad talk about while we were gone?"

"Oh, nothing, really. I just asked questions, he didn't seem to mind answering. He's a really nice man." She let a small smile slip.

Sirius and the other wolves bombarded me with questions about the attack and Bayne. I had told the story what felt like a hundred times.

"We will find her." Said Sirius, a group of other wolves followed him.

"I thought you didn't care for Bayne?" I said.

"He's apart of our pack. We will hunt this witch."

"Don't kill her. If you find her, bring her back here. She could know how to fix him."

Sirius agreed.

My wolf control was improving. The pack spent their nights hunting Bree. We searched the entire country, and then made our way down to the United States. The pack was a united front. My father split them up into smaller groups to search faster, and nothing. The useless C.C.C. also had no trace of her.

November ended. I visited Bayne everyday. He was getting paler. Raven and Romulus worked incredibly hard, researching and trying different potions, spells, and serums to wake him up. But nothing.

I would spend most days falling asleep in the room by the window as I watched him, hoping he would just suddenly wake up. He had saved me. He didn't deserve this. I had wished it was me most days. I wondered if he was dreaming.

Before we knew it, it was almost the holidays. The lodge was decorated in golden Christmas lights. They had a tree in the middle of the dining hall. Nadine and my father decorated it for everyone. I didn't expect tree decorating to be something he enjoyed. They tried to get me to help as a distraction, but it didn't work. I kept Bayne on my mind. It felt odd without his snarky comments calling me out on being dumb.

One day, I was walking up the stairs to speak my father. I wanted to hear if there were any news about the C.C.C. and if they had found anything. It was unlikely, but I had to ask.

On the hallway up, I ran into Nadine. Going the same direction.

"Oh, hey." She said. She seemed nervous.

"Where are you going? Up to see my dad?"

Uh, no. Just going for a walk." She said.

"Upstairs?"

"Yep. Going up some stairs is good for the legs."

"Well, I need to talk to him. You want to come with?"

Nadine agreed. We went up to the guardians room. We peaked in the door before entering. Adolpha and Ulrich were talking.

"We should come back later." I said, about to walk away.

"I don't care if he is your son!" I heard Adolpha. I stopped in my tracks and went back to the door. Nadine joined in on the evesdropping.

"That doesn't matter. It's not his fault." Ulrich defended.

"We've had so much trouble since he's been seen here. He has been spotted twice! Now a witch attacking Bayne? Trouble seems to follow your son."

"He's not leaving the pack. He is MY son. I am the pack leader."

"Watch yourself, Ulrich. You've been showing a lot of favoritism lately. The C.C.C. wouldn't like that. One more move like that, I'll have a word with them about your weak leadership."

"My leadership isn't weak! I've been pack leader for fifteen years. That's not going to change anytime soon."

She raised her eyebrows.

"We'll see about that."
