"Really? Right now? It's like three AM. Don't you have to go sniff out a squirrel or something?" Bayne crossed his arms.
"C'mon, Bayne! Lighten up! Pull the stick out of your ass and have some fun!"
I crawled out of the water and onto the pier. I was drenched in lake water. Every part of me dripped water onto the dock. I stood in the middle of my own puddle.
"He needs to be initiated before sunrise!" One of the wolves said.
"Why by tomorrow?" I asked.
"Tomorrow is the guardian vote! If you want your vote to count, you have to be a pack member."
"Alright. What do I have to do?"
"Shotgun this beer!" Sirius shoved a beer in my hand.
Initiation wasn't what I expected. It was full of shots and beer. I felt like I was joining a fraternity. I didn't expect chugging beers to be apart of the official initiation, but I knew I still had a lot to learn about the wolf world.
The next few hours were fuzzy. I remember throwing up at least twice. Once outside and the other inside. The room spun. I had felt like I had come down with the flu.
The next morning was rough. I had still felt a bit drunk. I reeked of alcohol. The sun was my enemy that day.
"We have to go down to the voting. Can you make it down there?" Bayne asked me.
"Yeah, yeah. I can do it. I'm still dizzy." I held my head, unable to keep steady footing.
"Damn them, you're still drunk. Alright. Let's get you some water and crackers."
He helped me up and navigated me down the stairs. The seats were facing a table, along with a small boxed area created for voting. The guys from last night clapped.
"There he is! The new initiate!" The wolves cheered. I stumbled down to a seat. Bayne brought me water and crackers.
"Stay here, alright? I have to sit up there. Just keep drinking water."
I nodded and shoved the club crackers in my mouth. Romulus sat next to me. I recognized him through my brown tinted sun glasses.
"You look rough. Initiation?" He asked.
"Yeah. I feel rough. But pack rules, right?"
"Erin. Those aren't pack rules." Romulus said.
"They aren't?"
"No where in our rules does it say 'to be a werewolf in the South Western pack you have to get absolutely shit faced'."
"Then why?"
"It's more of a social pack thing. The other members of the pack will accept you, but it's not necessary."
My cracker filled mouth dropped.
"But they think you're cool, at least?" Romulus said, giving Sirius and his gang a glance.
Dakota and Ulrich came down the stairs and joined Bayne at the table. Everyone else filled in their seats.
"Thank you, everyone for joining us on this nice day. Today, we have decided to try something new. Adolpha had no family to pass on guardianship to. So we will vote for the next guardian. Everyone will get one turn to vote. You're going to rank who you're voting for. One being your top choice. Understand?" He explained to everyone. There were no questions.
