Summary Of Idea: In this story idea Kol finds a way to get his magic back, making him a vampire-witch hybrid. This could happen in his earlier years (around the 1400s to 1800s) or happen in Vampire Diaries season 3.
The thing about this is that Klaus wouldn't be able to dagger Kol anymore because of his witch side. And being a hybrid might change Klaus' view of him a bit.
This would follow the Vampire Diaries timeline but with a far more powerful Kol. Also, being a witch again would probably affect Kol significantly.
