That Friday, Carly, Jess, and I went shopping for our dresses. Mason and I agreed on green for our color. He said it brought out my gorgeous eyes, which I knew was a lie because my eyes were as dull as you could get them.
After hours of shopping, we finally found the right ones. I tried on so many dresses, it didn't seem like any of them were perfect enough. Finally I fell in love with a floor length lime green dress covered in jewels. Jess got a pitch black lace mermaid dress, she looked stunning. Carly got a short fluffy bright pink dress that you could again see from space, most of her wardrobe consisted of that.
--
The night finally came, and Carly and Jess came to my house, where our dates were picking us up. Jared said yes to Jess who she had asked a few days before, and Carly was going with her boyfriend.
"We look good." I said sassily to them as we finished our hair and makeup. Lilly and Flame were watching from my bed as we ran around the room grabbing stuff from bags and throwing it on ourselves.
We walked out of my room and down the stairs after we were fully dressed and hair done. Jared, Matt, and Mason were already in my living room in their tuxedos. Mason had a lime green tie and his hair was being held up by a green bandana that matched his tie, his black jacket draped over his broad shoulders. I let out a small gasp when I saw him. He did too.
The other boys looked good too. Matt had a bright pink tie on, which you could tell he didn't like wearing, but he really liked Carly and would do anything for her. Jared had a pitch black suit and his long hair hung over a side if his face. His smile brightened when he saw Jess, revealing the silver lip ring in his mouth.
I walked up to Mason and held out my arms to give him a hug. My heel caught the bottom of my dress and I fell forward. Mason catches me in his arms before I fell on my face. I laughed a little as I proceeded to hug him. His long arms felt warm and safe as they wrapped around my waist.
"You look so gorgeous." He said with so much emotion in his voice, I just had to smile.
"You're not so bad yourself." I said laughing, remembering the lunch we had on Tuesday. I looked over at my best friends, they looked so happy with their dates. I could tell this was going to be a great night.
My mom got a few pictures of us with her camera before we headed out. We all hopped into Matt's car and headed to the dance. I felt a lot more confident that night than I did that whole week. My head finally healed up and I no longer had a huge bandage on my head.
Homecoming was such a great night. My feet were so sore afterwards. When the first slow song came on, Mason beamed at me as he grabbed my hand and dragged me onto the dance floor
"Aww my feet are so sore!" I whined laughing a little.
"Come on you'll love it!" He said with his cute chuckle.
I wrapped my arms around his neck and he held me close with his arms. He buried his face in the crook of my neck and I held my cheek to his chest. Our bodies moved as one as the music played.
I looked up from Mason's chest and saw Carly and Jess doing the same with their dates. Carly had the widest smile on her face, she looked like a bug compared to her large boyfriend. Jess was laughing at something Jared said and it looked like they were going to kiss. I was distracted by Mason who kissed my neck out of nowhere. I let out another squeal as I buried my face back into his chest.
"You're amazing Paige." He said. I didn't know how to respond. I just laughed and said, "I never know how to respond when you say things like that to me! You're even better."
He looked up at me from my neck, "There is no way that's possible." I leaned in to kiss him when a loud pop made everyone look up. The disco ball that was hanging above everybody had popped open and sent sparkles raining on everyone's heads. I heard woahs and aahs as the sparkles fell.
"It seems that every time we kiss something either explodes or sparkles. That's so weird!" I laughed. His neck started to feel unusually hot. He just smiled and put his head back on my neck.
When the song was over I let out a sad sigh, I didn't want the song to end.
When the night was over and we were all in the car, Mason was weirdly quiet. I assumed he was just tired, so I ignored it. I listened to Carly and Jess ramble on about how much fun they had.
Everybody waved goodbye as Mason and I walked up to my door, his eyes had a nervous glow in them.
"What's wrong?" I finally asked.
"Oh nothing it's just..." He trailed off as he opened the door. My mom was sitting straight up on the couch in the living room, looking even more nervous than Mason. She gestured for us to sit down and Mason finished his sentence.
"Paige, we need to talk to you."
I choked on air.
