Leaving the cage behind, depression can feel like a huge wall. It's so big that you can't get past it, and nothing from the outside can get through it. The sun, the happiness is on the other side but you can't even see it.
As a start, you have to know that there is light behind that wall. Believe me, there is.
Imagine recovery as putting a box down and stepping on it, getting closer to the end of it. Everytime you do something good to yourself you step on another, a taller box.
It takes a lot of courage to get closer to the end of the wall, so sometimes we even do things that brings us down a level. That's the thing about recovery, it's never a straight line. You might feel like everything is getting better and the next day it's bad again, but if a day or a situation is bad, that doesn't mean you won't get past it. Recovery isn't always what it looks like, it's not easy as it sounds and that's why I'm proud of everyone trying their best to make it through the day, through their life.
I know it's hard, but think about what is on the other side of the wall. Speaking from experience, I only saw hope after a long time of sadness, and it was the best feeling ever. I didn't even knew what being happy was like until I started getting better.
You can always change your life, but it's still your choice if you wanna change it into something good or not.
